Livonia Rotary Evening Social

June 11, 2026

Join both the Livonia AM and Livonia Noon Rotary Clubs this Thursday, June 11th, from 5-6:30 PM for an Evening Social at Schoolcraft’s Vistatech Center’s Craft Grill. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

The Great Pollinator Challenge

June 05, 2026

District Governor-Elect Kim Spirou announced the Great Pollinator Challenge and encourages each club in D6400 to create or expand on an existing pollinator garden during her term. This is part of the District Action Group (DAG) initiative, which is a refined version of PDG Noel Jackson’s initiative to have a district-level version of Rotary Action Groups serving the seven areas of Rotary International’s focus.

Erin H. Dobbins, representing the US, and Debra Harshaw, representing Canada, are cochairs of the environmental DAG.

The Eco club at Schoolcraft College has been working with councilmember Carrie Budzinski and plans to rejuvenate the pollinator garden at Clement Circle Park. Club member Steve Alexander lives in the neighborhood and is helping coordinate the project. This will not replace our club’s overall environmental focus on Sibley Prairie. Please reach out to Erin or Tammy Bonifield if you would like to help in the garden.

Club Assembly

June 03, 2026

This meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and Prayer by Rev. David Stechholz.

The meeting was a Club Assembly. We had 17 people in attendance.

The first part of the meeting focused on Karl Peters, who was Director of the Livonia Senior Center; he retired soon after we moved into the new senior wellness center. Tammy Bonifield presented Karl with some gifts in remembrance of all his hard work supervising the Senior Wellness Center and for working with our club.

Tammy said she wanted to thank Karl for all the work and that he would be missed. The first gift was a Paul Harris Fellow, which will have a lasting impact in the world. Tammy then presented our soccer ball that is imprinted with our 4-way test in 18 different languages.

Rebuild Rotary Park joint day of service came together with the two Rotary clubs and community members meeting at Rotary Park to assemble 26 picnic tables.

The Rotary Carnival appears to be a big success. Bill Friske reported that he had 18,000 visitors to our website's carnival page. The estimate from the Livonia Police was that 85,000 people were in attendance. Exact numbers will be coming.

Happy Bucks were collected. Dave Burton shared a quote his Mother always told him , Would you do what you’re doing if God was by your side?

Our prospective members were voted on and will be installed on July 1st. Stephanie Richards and Peter Dale, we look forward to celebrating with you on July 1st.

Panel Discussion at the Mackinac Policy Conference

May 26, 2026

Schoolcraft College Foundation staff, including club member and Executive Director of the Foundation Dawn Magretta, hosted a panel discussion at the Detroit Chamber’s Mackinac Policy Conference to showcase the College’s pioneering Masonry Trades Program. The program is a new model in Michigan due to its collaborative effort amongst education, industry, labor, and state government to address Michigan’s workforce challenges.

The most successful workforce pipelines come from these types of experiential learning partnerships. The Schoolcraft College Foundation has turned this model into a priority to form new collaborations that generate innovate programming while securing funding. Read More
