Thank You for Joining Us for AT Awareness Month

Assistive technology (AT) empowers people with disabilities to complete tasks more independently and enjoy a better quality of life. This November, Governor Josh Shapiro officially proclaimed November AT Awareness Month, and we were thrilled to celebrate! Raising awareness about AT helps expand its use and impact across communities.

Throughout the month, we collaborated with Sara (left), Chris (center), and Ben (right), to share videos highlighting how they use AT every day and how they funded their devices. From managing finances and daily routines to pursuing hobbies, their stories showcase the power of AT to enhance independence

A special thank you to Highmark Wholecare for sponsoring this campaign and helping us amplify these important stories. While AT Awareness Month may be over, our mission continues! Visit our website to learn more about assistive technology and funding options that are available.

Make a Lasting Impact This Year-End

Kathia is in the driver's seat of her adapted vehicle.

2025 has been a productive and meaningful year at PATF. We are on track to facilitate 500 loans totaling $3.9 million and help over 1,200 people seeking resources for funding assistive technology and managing finances.

Due to the support of our partners and the revolving nature of our loan fund, we can make or facilitate more in lending than the funding we receive. Over the past three fiscal years, we have made or facilitated 50% more in loans than the revenue we have received. Every dollar donated to PATF stretches further than that dollar, maximizing the return on investment.

Our lending programs help borrowers like Kathia. Kathia used a PATF Low-Interest Loan to purchase an adapted van, giving her the independence to travel safely and maintain her employment. Prior to purchasing her adapted van, she relied on public transportation. Her story illustrates the power of assistive technology to transform lives.

PATF in the Community

The Places We Have Been

Pennsylvania Association for the Blind (PAB) Fall Conference - We are thrilled to share that we attended the Pennsylvania Association for the Blind (PAB) Fall Conference from November 12th through November 14th. We had the opportunity to present to service providers on our programs and services. We also were able to connect with different associations in Pennsylvania that provide services to people with low vision and blindness. PAB aims to make a positive impact on those with low vision and blindness living in Pennsylvania, and we were happy to be part of the mission and share the same values.

Temple’s Resources for Blindness and Low Vision - In November we attended Temple’s Resources for Blindness and Low Vision held at TechOWL’s Community Space. We spoke with people with low vision and blindness who were looking for assistive technology and shared how PATF can assist with purchasing assistive technology through our financial loans and other programs and services.

PaTTAN Adventures in Technology for Students with Hearing and Vision Loss - We connected with educators, therapists, and families at PaTTAN Adventures in Technology for Students with Hearing and Vision Loss in both the east and central PaTTAN offices. The event featured popular vendors such as Tobii Dynavox, Cochlear, and Enhanced Vision. We were there alongside other providers, such as PA ABLE, to discuss funding solutions for assistive technology.

Pennsylvania Assistive Technology Foundation (PATF) helps Pennsylvanians of all ages, all disabilities and health conditions, all income levels, and all communities and cultural backgrounds. We offer information about acquiring assistive technology (AT), funding resources, financial education, and financial loan programs. For more information, call 484-674-0506 or visit www.patf.us.

PATF is a state and federally-certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) and is the Commonwealth's designated Alternative Financing Program (AFP) under the federal Assistive Technology Act.
