Highland Games Camporee Brings Scouts Together for a Weekend of Fun and Fellowship

From April 4–6, 2025, more than 100 Scouts and 30 adult leaders gathered at Trask Scout Reservation for the Rose Bowl District’s Highland Games Camporee. The weekend was filled with spirited competition, teamwork, and plenty of Scout spirit.

Scouts took part in a variety of fun and challenging events designed to test their skills and encourage friendly rivalry. Beyond the games, the camporee was a great chance to connect with fellow Scouts from neighboring troops, share stories around the campfire, and form lasting friendships.

The energy, enthusiasm, and camaraderie were unforgettable—and everyone is already looking forward to next year’s event!

Explorer Garcia: From Neighborhood Kid to Future Firefighter

For Explorer Omar Garcia, the sight of a fire engine meant more than curiosity—it inspired a calling. Growing up near LAFD Fire Station 98, Omar was captivated by the firefighters’ dedication and knew he wanted to serve his community the same way.

His journey from fascinated child to LAFD Post 87 Explorer hasn’t been easy. He persevered through the pandemic, completed emergency medical training, and volunteered at his local hospital. Now, he’s in the final stages of becoming an LAFD firefighter.

Omar’s story is a powerful reminder of how passion, resilience, and strong mentorship can shape the next generation of first responders.
