Remembering September 11 - 25 Years Later

Twenty-five years ago, our nation was forever changed by the attacks of September 11, 2001.

We remember the firefighters, law enforcement officers, medics, and countless others who answered the call in the face of unimaginable tragedy. Many gave their lives in service to others.

We honor their sacrifice, their courage, and the memory of all those who lost their lives that day.

We will never forget.

School is In Session - Watch for Buses

With school in session, buses are back on the roads making sure kids get to and from school safely. Please stay alert in school zones and at bus stops.

When to Stop for a School Bus:

Flashing red lights + stop arm extended: All drivers must stop and remain stopped until the lights stop flashing.
Two-lane or multi-lane road (no median): All traffic must stop, both directions.
Divided highway with median < 20 ft: All traffic must stop.
Divided highway with median ≥ 20 ft: Only traffic moving in the same direction as the bus must stop. Drivers on the opposite side may proceed with caution.

Let’s keep our kids safe this school year by staying alert and following the rules. Wishing everyone a safe and happy start to the year!

Scam Warning: Federal Investigation Scam

Scammers are targeting people through phone calls and emails, claiming victims face legal action, fines, or arrest warrants.

They use fear and urgency to demand immediate payment and may tell you not to talk to anyone.

Some of the warning signs for a scam:

You receive an email or a phone call demanding payment, and the person starts throwing credentials, badge numbers, and legal jargon at you.
Federal agencies and law enforcement do not accept cryptocurrency or gift cards to clear a warrant or pay a fine.
The scammer requires immediate action to avoid penalties or a warrant.
The scammer may tell you not to get off the phone or tell anyone about your interaction.

If you suspect the call is a scam, hang up. If an email looks suspicious, delete it without clicking on any links.

The Sheriff’s Office encourages you to talk with your family members and friends about these common scam tactics. Education is our best defense.

E-Bike Safety:

5 Things Every Parent should Know

Do you have a teen riding an e-bike or scooter? Not all e-bikes are the same, and it’s important to know the Oregon laws that apply.

Here are five things every rider and parent should know to help keep everyone safe:

Age Matters – You must be a minimum of 14 to ride Class 1 e-bikes or e-scooters. You must be 16 to ride other electric devices.
Speed changes everything – with more speed comes more serious crashes. Don’t let your e-bike take you to the ER.
A helmet is non-negotiable – Every ride, every time.
Different bikes have different rules – E-bike riders must know and follow all laws for their device.
Supervision and boundaries matter – If you are letting your teenager use one of these devices, set clear rules, know where they are, and how fast they are going.

E-bikes can be fun, but they can also be dangerous. The Sheriff’s Office wants to remind all riders to follow the rules of the road and ride responsibly.
