This month's Chamber Business Spotlight is on Tiadaghton House! Tiadaghton (pronounced "Tie-dotten") is a unique business owned by Holly and Jim Lovell in Lebanon IL. Architecturally speaking, the building is a 2-story house. In fact, Ann Pier owned a shop on the main floor and lived on the second floor when Holly and Jim purchased it in 2013.
Holly and Jim opened the business in the house on August 31, 2013 after Jim retired from the Air Force. Although they were living in O'Fallon IL at the time,
they named the business after their hometown in Pennsylvania. "Tiadaghton" is an Iroquois name that means "river of pines", otherwise known as Pine Creek.
To say the business is a shop would be an understatement. It is more of a paradise of arts and antiques. When you step inside, the rooms are filled with beautiful artwork from 85 local artists. There is framed art on the walls, and tables and cases are filled with all kinds of art including handmade jewelry, woodwork, scented candles, pewter figurines, and so much more, which are all for sale. In addition, they also sell unique antiques. Some are inside the house, and others are in a small building in the back. If you go upstairs, you will find several rooms with unique items for sale. One room is dedicated to soap and body products created by a local artist, and another contains very unique whimsical art. You might also find antique quilts hanging on the stair rail upstairs.
When asked what her favorite part about the business is, Holly replied, "Our favorite part is meeting people and being a part of the community. After my husband, Jim retired from the military, we wanted to be part of a community like when he was in the Air Force. Anyone who has been in the military knows the strong bonds you have with your military community. We knew we would miss that and wanted to be part of another community. Being a part of the different Lebanon events on the Brick Street, McKendree University, our church, and our neighborhood has given us that feeling back. We love it here!"
Holly and Jim do not run this business alone. They also have 2 resident artists; meaning they rent an entire room for their art. Both Becky Rippelmeyer and Alicia Scolarici have been at Tiadaghton House since it opened in 2013. They are both very talented artists who have become great friends. According to Holly, Becky makes the best soap and body products around! Alicia has a room full of whimsical and elegant art! In addition to being resident artists, Alicia and Becky are also valued employees whom they rely on to make their business a success. When Holly and Jim are away, Alicia runs the store. I have personally been there when Alicia is in charge, and she provides terrific customer service! Becky is a marketing whiz and is a big help in marketing their business. In addition to these ladies, Lori Holman has worked there as an employee for several years. Holly said, "Lori brings a lot of business talent with her and has also become a great friend! She is also creative and paints all the carved snowmen, elves, penguins and trees her artist husband makes. Jim and I couldn't be happier with the Tiadaghton Team!"
In addition to running the Tiadaghton House, Holly and Jim ran May Market for 10 years. It is a well-known vendor fair held in Lebanon the first Saturday in May. Their last year to run it was 2024. Then they retired from running May Market and handed it over to the owners of The Lantern. Holly is currently volunteering as the secretary and is on the sponsorship committee for Victorian Holiday, which takes place in November.
I asked Holly what she has learned from their business. She replied, "I have learned to deal with so many different personalities and realize that it takes all of us to make life a success." When asked who her ideal customers were, she replied, "People who appreciate art, antiques, and a relaxed and fun shopping experience."
On September 13, 2025, Tiadaghton House will be celebrating their 12th anniversary from 10 am - 5 pm. There will be artists doing demos, food, drinks and door prizes! (See flyer in this newsletter for details.)

This month's Chamber Non-profit Spotlight is on Emerald Mound Grange! The word "Grange" comes from the Latin word for grain and is related to a "granary" or, generically, a farm. Grange is also identified with large farming operations in England in the 1800s.
Granges were formed beginning in 1867 as local gathering places and frequently with schools in the lower floor and auditorium for Grange meetings upstairs in the days when America was rural. The Grange's roots are in agriculture and during the early years of the organization, being a farmer or part of a farm family was a requirement of membership. Not anymore. Anyone can be a Grange member, and no farming or agricultural background is required.
Emerald Mound Grange is a family-oriented fraternal organization that promotes community service and volunteerism to improve the quality of life and economic well-being of its members and the community. It is open to all ages 5 and up and you can be single or part of a family. No farming background is required. We are looking for people who want to be part of a positive organization that cares for the community.
Emerald Mound Grange, located 1.5 miles east of downtown Lebanon at Emerald Mound Grange Rd. and Hwy 50, was established in 1921. The organization is well known in Lebanon for its delicious food fundraisers such as chili/soup dinner, pork steak dinner, summer barbeques and big breakfasts. These fundraisers help raise funds for Grange Hall improvements and community service projects. Emerald Mound Grange has contributed to organizations in the local community, military community, and national community. These include donations to: the Lebanon Food Pantry (Lebanon Matthew 25.40 Ministries), the St. Louis Fisher House, Anna Veterans Home, Dogs for the Deaf, the Lebanon Woman's Club, the Lebanon Chamber of Commerce, the Lebanon Emerald Mound Fire Department and Alzheimer's Association, just to name a few.
Emerald Mound Grange has monthly meetings on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 7:30 pm. In addition to discussing upcoming projects, we sometimes have special speakers or programs. We would like to invite you to attend a meeting and learn more about our organization and its members.
We also rent out our Grange Hall for events such as: business meetings, family gatherings, weddings, home school proms, birthday parties, baby showers, etc. If you have any questions about the Grange or wish to get more information on hall rentals, please call Marc Henrichs at (618) 541-0490.

The Lebanon Lions Club Scholarship Golf Classic fundraiser will be held September 13 from 1 - 6 pm at the Scott Air Force Base Cardinal Creek Golf Course. They are seeking hole sponsorships and silent auction items to aid in next year’s scholarships. This year the Lions gave three high school scholarships and one college scholarship totaling $11,000.
Holes can be sponsored by individuals, a graduating class, an organization, or a family. Holes can also be sponsored to give best wishes to someone or as a memorial for a loved one.

CHURCH NEWS
Churches are an important part of the community in Lebanon. Not only do they provide spiritual guidance to their members, but they also provide activities that are open to the community. This month, we are looking at the community activities provided by the Lebanon First United Methodist Church. This is the first article on a local church for this newsletter. The article was contributed by Susie Whinnery. We encourage other local churches to contribute information on their community activities.
Did you know the Methodist Church provides several Community Events throughout the month? We do!
Tai Chi exercises are Wednesday evenings, 6:00 pm under the direction of a professional instructor. Learning Tai Chi strengthens your body and much more! No equipment to purchase. Wear comfortable clothing. Cost is $10 a person. Arrive by 5:45, no appointment or reservations needed.
Join the Upper Room small group study on Wednesdays at 1:30 pm in the Parlor. The study is based on the current month printed “Upper Room” devotion, a guide with daily devotions. Please let the Church office know you are coming or just arrive if you can!
We have a casual and light Senior Stretch on the 4th Thursday of the month, in the Fellowship Hall at 12:30 pm. This is light exercise, followed by a short devotion and tabletop games. Come join the fun!
Our Young at Heart Program meets the 2nd Wednesday each month at 10 am in the Fellowship Hall. Each month, there is a different speaker. On September 10th, Reverend Aletha Weatherall, our new Pastor, will be our guest speaker. Meet her and listen to the story of her life with Christ and family. Learn how she got to where she is today on her Faith journey. On October 8th, come and learn about our hometown’s Matthew 25:40 Ministries food pantry and the Community Care Coalition. Listen as Jane Cotts showcases the many ways the programs work together to help families of Lebanon and Summerfield in need and what you can do to help.
Please call the Methodist Church office at 618-537-6622 with questions for anything we offer.
