University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Announces $1 Million Estate Gift

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) recently announced a $1 million gift provided to the university from the estate of Hildegard Karlin. The multilevel gift establishes a new endowment, “The Dr. Arthur and Hildegard Karlin Scholarship Fund” in Accounting, Taxation, and Faculty Research.


The gift, which is part of a broader bequest from Dr. Arthur and Hildegard Karlin to various charities and recipients, focuses on providing educational and research support to expand opportunities for UAPB students and faculty, and strengthening learning experiences in accounting fields of study. Included in the broader intent of the gift is funding that supports faculty and student travel, individual research, and expanded student learning activities.

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) celebrated 152 years of existence during Founders’ Celebration activities on April 21-27, 2025. With the theme, “UAPB/AM&N Strong: Rooted in Tradition. Roaring into the Future,” the celebration is not just about the past, but also about the exciting future that UAPB is heading towards. The events included time-honored traditions and new opportunities to celebrate UAPB’s rich history.

UAPB Graduating Seniors Reflect and Prepare For Their Military Careers

DeAndra Haynes and Caleb Williams, two graduating seniors from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB), will be commissioned during the 2025 Spring Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 10, 2025. Haynes, a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, will be commissioned as a second lieutenant health service administration officer with the U.S. Army. Williams, a native of Little Rock, Arkansas, will be commissioned as an Infantry Officer in the Arkansas Army National Guard.

Tendai Musinga Graduates with Two Degrees from Two Universities in Arkansas

Tendai Musinga

When Tendai Musinga graduates, she will have not only one but two bachelor’s degrees–one from each of Arkansas’s land-grant universities. Musinga will have a bachelor’s degree in animal science from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) and a bachelor’s degree in poultry science from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville (UAF). This unique program is the 3+1 Poultry Science Program.


“This program is an innovative partnership between UAPB and UAF,” Dr. Emmanuel Asiamah, associate professor of animal science at UAPB and Musinga’s advisor, said.

UAPB Human Sciences Graduate Prepares to Pursue Ph.D., Contribute to Global Food Security

Madison Purifoy

As she nears graduation, Madison Purifoy, a University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff student majoring in nutrition and food science, reflects on her scholastic journey. She said her decision to enroll in the UAPB Department of Human Sciences was motivated by a strong desire to help people, as well as an interest in food and nutrition.


“The turning point came when I attended a summer camp where I not only learned more about nutrition but also had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in food science,” she said.

Social Work Graduate Reflects on Journey Defined by Grit and Determination


As she prepares to graduate Saturday with a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB), Janiya Fellows reflects on a journey defined by resilience, growth, and firsts. A first-generation college student, Fellows has not only excelled academically— earning the prestigious Chancellor’s Medallion in the School of Arts and Sciences, awarded to graduates with the highest cumulative GPA in each School, and graduating summa cum laude—she has also secured acceptance into a master’s program.

As the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) extends wishes for Mother’s Day on May 11, we are thrilled to share the extraordinary journey of Patricia Ann Cole and Maya Ashanti Cole. This mother and daughter duo, both UAPB Spring 2025 graduating seniors, are not only honoring a UAPB family and female legacy that Patricia coined as the ‘Wisemon sisters’ UAPB legacy, but also creating a unique and unforgettable Mother’s Day gift, graduating together.

UAPB Aquaculture/Fisheries Master’s Degree Student Fulfilling His Dream


Even before crossing the graduation stage at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB), Glen Jackson began fulfilling his dream. Jackson completed his Master of Science degree in aquaculture and fisheries and has already begun working for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.

“I chose to pursue my master’s degree in fisheries because I was lucky enough to get an internship with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission in 2014,” Jackson said. “That internship set me on the course for fisheries as I never ‘worked’ no matter how long the day. It was an instant passion, and I knew I had to strive to be in the field.”

UAPB Golf Team Makes History as HBCU National Champions


KOHLER, Wis. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) men’s golf team made history this week, capturing the 2025 PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship at the renowned Whistling Straits course in Kohler, Wisconsin. This landmark achievement marks UAPB’s first-ever HBCU National Championship in men’s golf and a historic milestone for HBCU athletics.

New Date Announced for Chancellor’s Spring Soirée - Sat., May 31


UAPB announced the new date for the Chancellor’s Spring Soirée. UAPB postponed the Chancellor’s Spring Soirée, initially scheduled for Saturday, April 26, 2025, on campus. The new date is Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 5 p.m. The postponement was due to the unseasonably warm weather and the ongoing upgrades to the campus HVAC system.
