Welcome to Our Newest Member!
Jane Burton grew up in Dallas, Texas and after high school went to college in California. She studied philosophy and graduated in 1959 from Stanford University and went on to graduate school. For a brief period she was an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at San Jose State University.  Having children interrupted this career. For a large part of the time when her two children were growing up, she lived in a community in New York State called Gate Hill Coop. The coop was much like cohousing and she found it to be the ideal living situation: a close-knit community but a private home - a wonderful way to raise kids.

She and her family moved back to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1975 and lived in a somewhat communal arrangement till the children were grown. During that time, she got her law degree and practiced law. For a number of years after retirement from law, she worked part time in the Oakland office of the California League of Conservation Voters, an environmental lobbying organization.

Jane lives in Oakland and has a son who lives in Sacramento. She's looking forward to seeing him more often after she moves to Fair Oaks. Her interests include gardening, cooking, music, travel, and literature.
