Get Involved in the City's Budget

Every year, the city goes through a budget process where elected officials and city staff identify priorities that will best serve the San Gabriel community. The city's budget is essentially a business plan that outlines the services the city will provide and its associated costs. It is a transparent spending plan that represents the City Council's priorities and reflects available revenue, fund balances and expenditures.

In addition to a City Council study session on May 4 and a public hearing on June 6, the public can attend a community budget meeting on Saturday, June 3 at San Gabriel Library. Community members will be able to have an in-depth look at the annual budget for fiscal year 2023-24. More details will be announced in CityBeat, on the city's website and on social media once finalized.

Tip, Toss and Protect Yourself from Mosquitoes

In recognition of California Mosquito Awareness Week, the San Gabriel Valley Mosquito & Vector Control District advises everyone to take preventative actions against mosquitoes. The latest rainfall coupled with higher temperatures sets the stage up for an active year of mosquitoes and viruses.

Follow these tips to keep mosquitoes out of your yard:

  • Tip out stagnant water. Just a bottle cap of water is all a mosquito needs to lay their eggs.

  • Toss unused containers in the trash or store them in a dry area so they don’t collect water in the future.

  • Protect yourself by applying insect repellent containing EPA-registered active ingredients, including DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus, or IR3535. Always read label instructions.

Visit sgvmosquito.org for more information on how to keep your homes bite-free.
