Connecting You to the World of Writing
San Miguel Literary Sala Presents

Join Us for the Free June Events

Every month we bring you programming that includes workshops, master classes, keynotes, and events aimed at connecting you with the world of writing, events that give you the opportunity to meet and learn from other writers like you. This month, in addition to favorites such as Silent Write, He Said, She Said, and In Focus, we introduce San Miguel Literary Sala Reads, where we present new work by our members.

The events listed below are free, but donations are gratefully accepted. Thank you for your continued support.
A WRITING GROUP WITH NATHAN FEUERBERG

Silent Write

ONLINE WRITING GROUP | JUN 9, 7:30 PM CDT

The best way to become a better writer is to practice. But often we sit down with our laptop or our pen and notebook and our mind goes blank. Silent Write was created to help writers get words on the page. Each month we write for about an hour with the aid of writing prompts. At the end of the session participants have the option to share a little of what they wrote.

Silent Write is a non-critique writing group hosted by Nathan Feuerberg. Nathan has an MSc in Creative Writing from The University of Edinburgh, and an MFA from The University of New Orleans.
HE SAID, SHE SAID

Anna Knutson Geller vs. April Eberhardt:
Traditional vs. Nontraditional Publishing

AN ONLINE LITERARY DEBATE | JUN 19, 4:00 PM CDT

The origins of debate can be traced back as far as the Ancient Greeks. Socrates used the Socratic method to try and better understand the world around him. The San Miguel Literary Sala will continue this tradition with a lively discussion between two of our faculty members each month.

Dive into the world of publishing with two professionals from the industry. Anna Knutson Geller and April Eberhardt have both worked as literary agents and brought many books from idea to publication. Learn from two of our faculty as they discuss a variety of topics focused on traditional publishing, self-publishing and hybrid. This live zoom event includes a question and answer session at the end.
IN FOCUS

Jill Sherer Murray Reads Big Wild Love: The Unstoppable Power of Letting Go

AN ONLINE READING | JUN 24, 7:30 PM CDT

Our series, In Focus, spotlights writers debuting new books. Each event focuses on a single author’s writing, and personal experiences. Check out this live Zoom event, which puts a spin on the traditional reading.

As humans, we tend to hold onto things we value. Yet, at the same time, there’s an incredible value in letting go. Jill Sherer Murray, an award-winning author, journalist, and communications expert, is there for it. She wrote her best-selling book, Big Wild Love: The Unstoppable Power of Letting Go, for the many people who reach out to her from all over the world for advice and inspiration after seeing her widly popular TEDx Talk. Join us and be inspired.
SAN MIGUEL LITERARY SALA READS

New Event Series Features Latest Work by a Poet and Two Memorists

ONLINE READINGS BY OUR MEMBERS | JUN 28, 5:00 PM CDT

2020 and the first half of 2021 have been tough. Kids missed their Prom, we had to watch our children graduate from school on Zoom and authors, who finally published their work, found there was no book launch and no bookstore reading.

Plant a Seed! Grow a Forest! The San Miguel Literary Sala intends to help remedy this unfortunate calamity! Starting June 28, 2021, at 5:00 PM CDT the Literary Sala will showcase member authors and their work.

In our first San Miguel Literary Sala Reads event, we will be celebrating the artistry of three fine authors:

Catherine Marenghi will be reading from her debut book of poems, Breaking Bread. When reviewing the book, fellow poet and author Bonnie Larson Staiger said, "Marenghi invites us into a retrospective on the bonds of a life, loss, and longing."

Judith Gille will be reading from Todavía México: Life Beyond the Border, a collection of essays celebrating her eighteen years in Mexico and offers readers keen insights into the joys and complications of living on the southern side of the U.S. Mexico border.

Pat Hall will be reading from Speak to Me: Travels and Exploits of a Language Lover, a story about an intrepid woman's adventures traveling and pursuing her passion for languages.

A Q&A session will follow the readings.
