Jess Adams' advisees exercising teamwork (and humor)
Dear Osprey Community,

We look forward to seeing you at the  Osprey Summer Social  next Tuesday, July 24 from 5:30 to 7:30. All new, returning and graduated students and their families are welcome to join us on campus for an informal pot luck meal and gathering. Please bring a dish to share (last name A-Q bring a salad, side or main dish, R-Z please bring desert), your favorite lawn game (corn hole, anyone?), a lawn chair and your best summer stories. Tuck a little cash in your pocket, too, as our neighbors from the Twin Buttes Farm will have a table at the event, selling their freshly picked, locally-grown produce.

The AHS Board of Directors will meet next Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 on campus; all are welcome and those who are interested in possibly joining the Board are strongly encouraged to attend. We are seeking new Board Members as we head into our tenth year of operation and prepare to kick off a capital campaign to build our permanent facility. For more information about joining the Board, please read this press release or contact Board President Jeff King at jeff.king@animashighschool.com.

Students who are planning to participate in fall sports must complete registration before school begins. The AHS Mountain Biking Team provides an excellent, supportive opportunity for riders of all abilities and is coached by Humanities teacher Ashley Carruth and Science teacher Tina Hott. The season will begin with an orientation meeting on August 13 from 5:00 to 7:00 and team members register through Durango DEVO. Please read more about the program here. Students planning to join Durango High School fall sports teams or activities must complete the registration process through the DHS Athletics Office before August 6. For full information about this process, visit the DHS website here.

We will have a staggered start for the first week of school, with all 9th graders beginning on Monday, August 20, 10th and 11th graders returning on Tuesday, August 21 and 12th graders beginning their year with Senior Sunrise on Wednesday, August 22. Student orientation activities will include some off-campus adventures and academic classes begin on Thursday, August 23. We'll send out more details in a couple of weeks but feel free to reach out to Sean or Libby with any questions you might have between now and then.

Keep enjoying that summer break and many thanks for all you do to help the Ospreys soar!
