Patrol and Reserve Deputies Successfully Conduct Sex Offender Compliance Sweep
On March 9, 2024, patrol and reserve deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with regional partners, conducted a highly effective sex offender compliance check operation throughout Washington County.
These crucial compliance checks, organized and executed by the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Apprehension Team (CAT), are performed regularly to ensure public safety. Our deputies visit the sex offenders' registered addresses, meticulously verifying their residency as provided to law enforcement.
During this sweep, the collaborative effort carried out 83 compliance checks. We verified 54 individuals in full compliance, confirming their presence at their reported addresses. 27 checks remain unverified, primarily due to scenarios such as unanswered doors or conflicting information.
We determined one individual was non-compliant and no longer living at their reported address. Deputies are working to contact this individual.
These proactive efforts are given high priority in Washington County. Our dedicated CAT team aims to verify sex offenders' registered information at least annually.
We would like to thank all the agencies involved in this sweep, including our commendable reserve deputies, whose valuable assistance made this mission a resounding success.
For more information on high-risk sex offenders, you can visit the Oregon State Police Sex Offender Registry.

WCSO Assists with Water Rescue
In the early evening of March 5, 2024, a warrant subject ran from Beaverton Police Department Officers. Officers contained the area and called for additional support to locate the wanted person. Along with others, a drone operator from the multi-agency Remotely Operated Vehicle Team (ROVT) responded to support Beaverton’s K9 track.
In a coordinated effort, the K9 team and the drone operator located the man in waist-deep water at the Koll Center Wetlands Park. While communicating with the man in the water, they learned he was stuck in the mud and could not get out.
A water rescue deputy from the Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol came to the scene and coordinated getting the man out of the water safely.
The man was transported to a local hospital as a precautionary measure before being taken to jail for his warrant.
ROVT is a joint effort between the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Beaverton and Hillsboro Police Departments to support law enforcement activities where technology plays a key role in a safer outcome.
Marine Patrol is a Sheriff’s Office team of deputies who are specially trained in water safety and rescue.
This incident highlights the cooperative relationship between the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Beaverton Police Department.

It is with great sadness WCSO shares the passing of K9 Bolo.
Bolo, a beloved member of our law enforcement family, was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, and the extremely difficult decision was made to end his suffering. Despite exploring alternative treatments, the rapidly evolving condition made it unfeasible to provide him with the quality of life he deserved.
Bolo became Corporal Michael Zaugg's partner in November 2019, and their bond was undeniable right from the start. In addition to their patrol duties, they also served together on the Sheriff's Office SWAT team – Washington County's Tactical Negotiations Team (TNT). Bolo's dedication and drive for excellence were truly remarkable.
It's important to highlight Bolo's accomplishments, as he was a true champion. Bolo earned the prestigious title of Top Dog at the Sheriff's Office K9 trials in 2022 and successfully defended his title in 2023. His incredible work ethic and unmatched enthusiasm brought pride to our team and inspired us all.
Thank you Bolo for your service to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Washington County. We miss you already.
