Shift Brief

Computer Crimes Investigation Leads to Indictment

A Washington County Sheriff’s Office investigation has led to the indictment of a Eugene man accused of stealing and distributing intimate images from victims’ Snapchat accounts—some of whom were minors.

The case began in 2022 and uncovered more than three dozen victims.

Thanks to the work of our investigators and support from partner agencies, the suspect is now facing multiple charges, including computer crimes and encouraging child sexual abuse.

Anyone with further information about this case should contact the Washington County Sheriff’s Office at 503-846-2700, referencing case number 50-22-17704.

Warm Weather Safety

We know – it’s been a long winter. And a soggy spring. But the sun has made a comeback! With the sunny weather comes heat we might not be used to here in the Pacific Northwest.

Here’s your friendly warm weather reminder from WCSO:

  • Drink water and stay hydrated (yes, even if you’re just “running a quick errand”)
  • Take breaks in the shade
  • NEVER (ever, EVER) leave kids or pets in the car, even for a minute

Let’s enjoy the sun safely – because heat exhaustion isn’t on anyone’s summer bucket list.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Month

June is recognized as World Elder Abuse Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness of the abuse and neglect many elderly and vulnerable adults face.

Approximately 1 in 10 adults over the age of 60 in the U.S. have experienced some form of elder abuse. Elder abuse can include financial abuse, emotional abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect.

Join us in promoting a better understanding of elder abuse and neglect to take action to create a safer environment for older adults in our community. You can help by reaching out to older neighbors and loved ones, watching for warning signs, and reporting elder abuse to law enforcement.

To help provide services for victims of crimes, WCSO’s Elder Safe Program supports victims 65 and older after a crime is reported to police and continues to assist them through the criminal justice system.
