April Letter from the CEO

Krystin Albert; RN, BSN

Happy Nurses Day and National Nurses Week.

On May 12,1820 Florence Nightingale was born in Florence, Italy. She was named after the city she was born to and became a British nurse. She made a name for herself during the Crimean War, spending many hours in the wards tending to the wounded soldiers, providing personal care hence becoming known as the “Lady with the Lamp”. She also formalized nursing education forming the “Nightingale School of Nursing”. We recognize the nursing profession in observance of Nurses Day on May 6th and National Nurses Week, May 6th–12th. This annual recognition provides an important opportunity to acknowledge the critical role nurses play in advancing quality care and supporting patients within their homes and communities.

Home care nurses deliver skilled, compassionate, and individualized care in settings that require independence, clinical expertise, and sound judgment. They serve as trusted clinicians, educators, advocates, and partners to patients and families, often caring for individuals with complex medical needs while promoting safety, dignity, and independence in the home. Their work is essential to preventing hospitalizations, supporting recovery, and improving long-term health outcomes.

The role of the home care nurse requires adaptability, accountability, and a high level of professional excellence. Working autonomously while collaborating closely with interdisciplinary teams, home care nurses ensure continuity of care across settings and play a vital role in managing chronic conditions, coordinating services, and supporting end-of-life care. Their dedication directly contributes to the quality, reliability, and reputation of home-based healthcare services.

Franklin VNA & Hospice extends our sincere appreciation and gratitude to our home health nurses. Your contributions are recognized, your service is deeply appreciated, and your commitment to excellence does not go unnoticed. We thank you for your continued dedication and for the essential role you play in delivering high-quality home-based care.

Thank you for choosing Franklin VNA and Hospice as your Home Health and Hospice agency and for sharing your experience with our services with others. It is because of you that we are able to continue to remain a small independent hometown agency.
