Summertime in New Canaan!

The Staying Put office will be closed on Thursday, July 1, and Friday,

July 2, for Independence Day Celebrations.

Mon., July 5, 9:30 am: Zoom Men’s Coffee. Join Staying Put member Pete Stair as he hosts a virtual discussion. Make your own cup of coffee and enjoy the lively conversation. Free. RSVP.

Tues., July 6, Noon: Lunch at Mead Park. Grab lunch from the Apple Cart and join your friends for fun conversation in a casual setting. Rain date - Wed., July 7, Noon. You pay your tab. RSVP by Mon., July 5.

Wed., July 14, 10:00 am: Ladies' Patio Coffee. Join us as we gather outside on the Staying Put Patio, 58 Pine St. We'll have coffee, snacks, and a fun time catching up with one another. Rain date Thurs., July 15, 10:00 am. Free. RSVP by Mon., July 12.

Sat., July 17: New Canaan Sidewalk Sale. Elm Street will be a pedestrian friendly shopping zone. Enjoy browsing shops, restaurants, local merchant and non-profit tents. Don't forget to stop by the Staying Put outside Starbucks.

Tues., July 20, 10:00 am: Men's Patio Coffee. Always an interesting conversation filled with lots of laughter. Hope we see you there! Rain date - Wed., July 21, 10:00. Free. RSVP by Mon., July 19.

Wed., July 21, 5:30 pm:

Burgers and Brats at Barb's. Join us for a relaxing BBQ at Barb's home (855 Weed St.) If you like, bring along your favorite summer side dish or dessert. Rain date - Thurs., July 22, 5:30 pm. Free. RSVP by Mon., July 19.

Tues., July 27, 12 Noon: Lunch at the Sterling Farms Golf Course Clubhouse in Stamford. Enjoy delicious club fare and delightful conversation overlooking the beautiful golf course, 1349 Newfield Avenue. Make your menu choice when you RSVP. $30. Mail check to Staying Put or call us with your credit card number. RSVP by Tues., July 20.

Don't let transportation keep you from attending one of our events. Just give us a call at 203-966-7762 and we'll arrange for a driver to pick you up and get you back home. We look forward to having you with us!

Summertime Fun

Cathie Seton's Baked Beans

Ingredients

1 lb. ground beef

1 lb. bacon

1 onion, chopped

2 tbs. brown sugar

2 tbs. molasses

1/2 cup ketchup

1/2 tsp. dry mustard

2 cans pork and beans

2 cans kidney beans

2 cans butter beans

Directions

In a skillet, brown ground beef, bacon, and onion. Add brown sugar, molasses, ketchup, and dry mustard. When thoroughly blended, transfer mixture to a bean pot or casserole dish and add beans (undrained). Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.

Anne Stein's Iced Tea

Ingredients

8 Lipton tea bags

1/2 gal. water, boiling

2 cans lemonade, frozen

Handful mint

Directions

In a 1 gallon pitcher, add the tea bags, mint and boiling water. Let steep until cool. Remove tea bags and mint. Add the frozen lemonade. Mix well and enjoy!

Sat., July 3, 5:00 pm: Enjoy New Canaan July 4th Celebration. Sale of passes is restricted to New Canaan residents and their guests only. Go to the town website to find in-person purchase locations. Price is $35 per car or walk-in family.
