We All Have To Do It
10 You have no right to criticize your brother or look down on him. Remember, each of us will stand personally before the Judgment Seat of God. 11 For it is written, “As I live,” says the Lord, “every knee shall bow to me and every tongue confess to God.” 12 Yes, each of us will give an account of himself to God (Rom. 14:10-12 TLB).
For everything we have done, are doing, and will do, each of us will one day stand before God individually and give an account. No one is exempt, no one. It doesn’t matter where we were born, what we were taught, or how we came to our beliefs and conclusions. Each of us will have to answer to God for the choices we made and the lives we lived, and were they aligned with His Word. And we won’t be able to say, “Well, I didn’t know!”
Look at the story of the rich man and Lazarus in Luke 16:19–30. After they died, Lazarus was carried to Abraham’s side, while the rich man found himself in torment. The rich man pleaded with Abraham to send Lazarus back to warn his brothers about what he was experiencing, but Abraham told him that his brothers had Moses and the prophets. They had already been given the truth and were responsible for listening to it, and obeying it.
Romans 14 reminds us that there is a day coming when every one of us will stand before God and give an account for our lives, for what we did, why we did it, and the choices we made. So the question is not whether that day will come. Scripture tells us that it is coming. The question is: Will you be ready when it does? To make sure that you ARE ready, Romans 10:9 tells us what to do: That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved (KJV). Amen!
