FIRST "JAY HOUSE OF CUBES" TOURNAMENT
Thank you to everyone who came out for our inaugural cubing event on July 9 spearheaded by Ben Martin and his Boy Scout group. Over 50 children and their families came to the Jay Heritage Center to hear Phil Yu, CEO and founder of The Cubicle. Kids excitedly brought their own cubes and asked questions about different techniques and strategies that make speedcubing accessible to all.

The presentation was followed by a lively competition led by Evan Liu from the World Cube Association (WCA) with speedcubers, young and old, from around the region. Read more and see photos here.
INDIGENOUS HISTORY MATTERS
The topic of New York State’s original heritage drew a huge audience to our site on July 9. Attendees were engaged by historian Heather Breugl who traced how populations of Indigenous Peoples in America had changed over the centuries due to removal from their homes. Using maps and slides to give an overview of the original Native Nations that inhabited New York, Heather described how the American Revolution had impacted relations between the colonists and groups like the Iroquois Confederacy. SOTHEBY'S AUCTION ILLUMINATES JOHN JAY'S CENTRAL ROLE AS PEACEMAKER

"Mr. Jay has the key."
DID YOU KNOW that the coded instructions from Congress sent to the principle negotiators of the Treaty of Paris were recently on display at Sotheby's?

John Jay, a master at codes and espionage, deciphered the directives. Ultimately he and John Adams outvoted Benjamin Franklin and ignored these instructions - their bold actions resulted in “one of the two most advantageous treaties ever negotiated for the United States” and the end of the Revolutionary War. Jay would return to his home in Rye to celebrate the peace achieved. Read more here.
