Get Involved in PSI Committees!

If you've ever considered becoming a member of a PSI Chapter committee, there's no time like the present!
Why should you join a PSI committee? Because it's a great way to
make your voice heard on key industry issues
stay up to date on market and industry trends
network with industry leaders
give back to the chapter
expand your business contacts—and more!

PSI has nine committees, so there's bound to be one that interests you—and getting involved is easy: Review the committee descriptions below, decide which committee(s) interest you, and send an email of interest to the related committee chair(s).

This committee covers topics of interest to Associate member companies, which include providers of information, equipment, technology, products, and services to PSI members. This group makes sure Associate members have a voice on the PSI Chapter governance level and that the concerns of Associate members are adequately represented and addressed within the chapter.
Chair: Marty Seaman, Resource Recycling Systems, mseaman@recycle.com

Communications Committee
This committee oversees all news and marketing functions for the chapter, deciding which information is most important to share with PSI members and how best to communicate it. The committee promotes PSI events and programs (such as its annual scholarship program), announces new PSI members, relays timely industry and ISRI news, covers chapter changes (such as officer elections and new specifications), presents Q&A profiles of chapter members/leaders, and more. Through its work, the committee keeps PSI members informed and builds community in the chapter.
Co-chairs: Rick Post, Pratt Recycling, rpost@prattindustries.com; David Tratner, Wilmington Paper Corp., dtratner@wilmingtonpaper.com

Events Committee
This committee organizes and oversees PSI-sponsored in-person and virtual events, including the annual fundraising event for the chapter’s scholarship program and PSI receptions at industry events such as the Southeast Recycling Conference & Trade Show, the Paper and Plastics Recycling Conference, and the ISRI annual convention. The group brainstorms ways to connect PSI members in ways that expand their industry contacts and add value to their PSI membership. The committee works closely with the Communications Committee to market scheduled events.
Chair: Nancy Womack, Greif Recycling, nancy.womack@greif.com
Export/Trade Committee
This committee monitors and discusses the market, legislative, and regulatory news and trends on the international trade of scrap/recyclable commodities. The committee draws from member experiences and the ISRI national Trade Committee to stay abreast of the latest trade trends, and it relays any noteworthy trade news to the PSI Communications Committee for distribution to the PSI membership at large.
Chair: Bob Tucker, Sonoco Recycling, bob.tucker@sonoco.com

Government Affairs Committee
This committee monitors federal, state, and local legislative and regulatory policies that impact paper and MRF recycling operations. When appropriate, the committee develops policy positions and advocacy strategies and promotes participation in efforts in specific states or on the national level through ISRI’s congressional fly-in and the annual NCSL Legislative Summit. When appropriate, the committee coordinates activities with the ISRI policy staff.
Chair: David Kluesner, International Paper, david.kluesner1@ipaper.com

Membership Committee
This committee seeks to increase the chapter’s membership through direct communication with prospects, in-person recruitment (when possible) at industry events or site visits, and promotional marketing using ISRI and PSI communications. This group cooperates with PSI members and the ISRI national membership staff to share leads, coordinate communication efforts, answer prospect questions, and onboard new members.
Chair: Tamara Mayberry, Pioneer Industries International, tmayberry@pioneerintl.com

Safety Committee
This committee advocates safety as the recycling industry’s top priority, and it does so by keeping up with safety trends and new safety regulations that apply to recycling operations, imparting safety messages directly to members at PSI meetings and through PSI communications, encouraging PSI members to take advantage of ISRI national’s safety programs and resources, and attending (and encouraging PSI members to attend) meetings of the ISRI national Safe Operations Committee and the ISRI Safety and Environmental Council.
Chair: Michael Hughes, Casella Waste Systems, michael.hughes@casella.com

Scholarship Committee
This committee generally consists of five to six past PSI presidents, who serve as judges of scholarship applicants. Committee members maintain the scholarship application and promote the program to PSI member companies to encourage applications. They then read and grade the applications and select finalists. The committee also works with the Communications Committee to promote the scholarship program and recognize the recipients. In addition, committee members help contact the recipients and work with the Recycling Education & Research Foundation (RERF)—which oversees ISRI chapter scholarship programs—to send information on each winner’s school so scholarship funds can be transferred.
Chair: Nini Krever, Wilmington Paper Corp., nktraders@tradersintl.net

Specifications Committee
This committee oversees the paper-related grades in the ISRI Scrap Specifications Circular and fields requests from committee members and PSI members at large to assess whether changes need to be made to existing grades or whether new grades need to be added. This group works closely with the ISRI national commodities staff to follow the necessary protocol for any specification changes and to ensure that all changes appear accurately and in a timely manner in the ISRI Scrap Specifications Circular.
Chair: Krystina Smith, WestRock, krystina.smith@westrock.com
