Reflections from the 2023 Year

The end of the year tends to be a time of reflection and learning. I wanted to reflect back with you all on just a few of the generous and profoundly selfless ways that Saint Simons Presbyterian has been serving our community through Mission & Outreach. This Stewardship season the theme has been "Inside Out" and again I say, how thankful I am to be apart of this church family that indeed is actively servings from the inside out. I am ending this year with such a feeling of faith, hope and JOY; from all the learning and serving of the many community partners that SSPC has a relationship with. I hope as you scroll through and see your brothers and sisters smiling that you see the light of Jesus Christ shining from them as I do. May you be filled with the same faith, hope and JOY as I am. And perhaps you enter the New Year, newly inspired to join in serving.

Blessings of peace & health,

Madelynne Risi

"Our church has a fantastic record of community participation and I know part of that is the contagious feeling of joining with fellow members and helping other organizations. I am a firm supporter of the Salvation Army having been a board member where I lived before moving to this area fourteen years ago. So, I hope that next year we can grow the number of ringers as well as continuing to support the other critical missions in the County and beyond." - Ellen Smith

Lorene Reid coordinated a spirited ringing for SSPC this Christmas season. We were able to have all the time slots filled, and despite the weather the pot was filled! We are thankful for each of the bell ringers who smiled and shared God's heartfelt presence with folks.

Angel Tree

There are many Christmas traditions that SSPC holds on to and Angel Tree is one for the most beloved. We are grateful for Melissa Tsai for the time and energy she has poured into this outreach. After chairing for the last two years, Melissa is ready to pass of leadership to other ready volunteers! The team of volunteers and everyone who selected an angel, to donating, you are apart of making the Christmas season bright for families in our community. With all of your willingness to serve, 170 Angels were shopped for. Mellissa, thank you for your faithful leadership!

Our Hunger Action Team packed 125 boxes that went out into the Glynn County School system to feed families over the Thanksgiving holiday. Bonnie Robert leads this Ministry with an energetic and strong team who shop, organize, store, pack and deliver food and snack throughout the year within our schools.

Glynn Co. School vans loading to deliver!

This fall came the creation of a ministry that is indeed joy filled! Here you can see Leslie Hartman with Michelle Fasig holding up a "Happy Birthday" banner that was made by our Hands and Heart team. The Happy Birthday Crew has partnered with Hands & Heart to provide personalized birthday banners with residence names for them. Members of the congregation joined in a Lunch & Learn where we had a tour and learned about the great services that Safe Harbor gives to children, teens, families, victims and individuals.

Here you can see just some of the birthday celebrations that the Happy Birthday Crew put together to deliver to over 20 residences at Safe Harbor. Each child also receives a personalized birthday cake with their name on it. This team is truly showing these children that they are a beloved child of God!

Salvation Army: Cooking for Neighbors

In September of this year the Missions Committee felt called to assist our community in feeding and caring for our homeless neighbors. Through Salvation Army we have committed to cooking a warm dinner that is filling the bellies that may otherwise be empty. On the 2nd & 4th Mondays of the month, comforting smells can be found in the kitchen at SSPC. How encouraging it is to have a congregation full of selfless people to shop, prepare and deliver meals!

Donation Boxes

You may have seen these white boxes in the administration lobby over the years. They play an important part in supporting our Community Partners! The first box is labeled "Sparrows Nest" ; at any time you are welcome to place food and pantry items that have not expired into this box adn it will be deleivered. The Middle box is donning a new sing, "Safe Harbor" and throughout the year you are able to support this organization in a variety of ways (see the complete list here) The last box is labeled "Community Mission" and this bin rotates in holding the needs of various partners throughout the year! I encourage you to check out these boxes and perhaps drop an item in!
