Dear arts educators,

We have an amazing opportunity to boost arts instruction this month with the Creativity at the Core Summer Institute being held right here in San Diego.

The three-day institute from July 25 to 27 is hosted by the San Diego County Office of Education at our main campus. It’s a chance for local arts educators and community partners to hear directly from state experts on the state standards and framework for visual and performing arts. The learning will also cover topics such as:
  • Culturally and linguistically responsive pedagogy
  • Intersection of the arts, maker ed, and ed tech
  • Literacy and the arts
  • Inclusion of students with disabilities
  • Cultivating global competence
  • Native American culture
  • Title I and the arts
  • STEAM education
I will be presenting at two sessions -- Problem Solving through Theatre: Learning 21st-Century Skills via the Dramatic Arts and Building Empathy and Understanding through World Music.

My focus each day is to help ensure all students in San Diego County receive a quality arts education that advances their future. I am so proud of the existing arts programs in our county’s schools that have grown in quality and grown to serve more students.

The Creativity at the Core Summer Institute by the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association (CCSESA) Arts Initiative presents a great chance to improve instruction and also to model lifelong learning to our students.

I hope you will join me at this event later this month. Please reach out with any questions.
