SciLine briefing: 2024 Solar Eclipse: science and story ideas*

On April 8, thirteen U.S. states will experience a total solar eclipse. SciLine, a

nonprofit, nonpartisan free service for journalists, is hosting a briefing next week

that will cover need-to-know essentials for reporters preparing their eclipse

coverage, including what scientists can learn from eclipses, how people can view

them safely, effects for birds and other animals, and the social science behind

why these events are awe-inducing.

Meet Alyssa Cruz, palabra. intern

Alyssa Cruz is a junior at Ohio University studying journalism and Spanish. She is the culture editor for The Post, an independent, student-run newspaper. She has worked for two years as a coordinator for Altavoz Lab, a mentorship program for BIPOC reporters, and has completed a multimedia storytelling internship in Ecuador.
