Dear Susan,

Groton is beautiful year round, but perhaps never more so than in the early fall. We will celebrate the coming crisp, sunny days and cool nights with visits to our favorite trails and vistas. We have a few trail updates for you to help in your planning.

New Trail at Casella The Groton Trails Committee worked diligently over the summer to complete a trail at the Town of Groton's new Casella land. We were so excited to partner with the Town on this land protection project and hold the conservation restriction for this beautiful land. Now there is a fantastic trail that crosses the glacial esker and winds through the woods.

Thank you to Paul Funch and his team of volunteers for their hard work on the new trail.

New Bridges at Gamlin Crystal Spring We are happy to announce the completion of two new bog bridges at Gamlin completed as part of an Eagle Scout service project by Chris Pincott. Thank you Chris for your hard work organizing, fundraising, and building this bridge, and to many others for diligent behind the scenes work to get town and state approval for this project.

Closures at Groton Place and Sabine Woods The flooding this season has had an impact on many local wetlands, and the early September rains and subsequent flooding have resulted in the closure of both the NEFF Groton Place and GCT's Sabine Memorial Woods. New England Forestry Foundation will continue to post updates on their social media.

This Thursday! FREE ALL AGES Autumnal Equinox Celebration at The General Fiel

We are so excited to team up with the Groton Public Library again for this very fun event at The General Field. We will have s'mores and firepits and hot chocolate. Bring your chairs or picnic blankets. Feel free to bring your own picnic dinner as well! Fingers crossed for one of the famously beautiful sunsets from the top of the field. The General Field is located off Farmers Row across from Culver Road.

Registration is required for this free event. All are welcome!

2023 Groton Traverse

Sunday October 15, 2023

This year's fall Traverse will be on Sunday October 15 beginning at 10 AM. We will pass over the new Casella Conservation Land and its brand new trails. As we get closer to the village, we will revisit some of the original traverse course including Scarlett and Gibbet Hills. As is our tradition with the traverse, we plan on pot luck food and drink to celebrate the finish. Register here to attend.

Enjoyed that hike? Loved that speaker? Your donations make it happen!

Donations to the GCT help our stewardship and help bring you the speakers and events you like to attend. You can make a paperless donation online at our secure website.

GCT members renew every year to ensure the work continues, and every donation you make increases our efforts. First time members will receive a copy of the GCT Groton conservation land map. It is a gorgeous paper map that fits in your pocket or your glove box. You can request a free map with your first time membership right on our secure donation website.

Giving thanks:

A hearty thank you to so many people who made the Bates Blackman Restoration Project possible

Last week, the GCT had the pleasure of offering thanks to many of the volunteers, donors, and community supporters who made the Bates Blackman Restoration Project possible. This truly was a community effort. Thank you to everyone who generously supported this project.

Free time with the kids this fall? Get outside!

Looking for a free activity with your kids? Get the wiggles out with a walk on GCT land. Kids can borrow one of the many nature picture books or a nature kit from the Groton Public Library, or just get ready to observe with eyes and ears! Thanks to this summer's wet weather, there is so much to see on the trail! Bates, Shepley Hill, The General Field, Gamlin Crystal Spring and many, many others are perfect for kids.
