"They Played for Their Lives" Film Screening and Conversation with Movie Director and Holocaust Survivor
Presented by Classrooms Without Borders
Tuesday, Oct. 15
7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Levy Hall
Classrooms Without Borders is excited to bring Dr. Nurit Jugend and her film, "They Played for Their Lives," to Pittsburgh. Dr. Nurit Jugend is an Israeli composer and music lecturer at Stanford University. This powerful 50-minute documentary is about Jewish musicians whose lives were saved in the Holocaust by playing music. The documentary follows the story of eight survivors. The goal of the film is to aid educators in the discussion about history, the Holocaust, human resilience, perseverance, music, and the power of the arts to enable expression and relief in the face of depression, trauma and hopelessness. Joining her will be Frank Grunwald, one of the Holocaust survivors featured in the film, who will play a few songs on his accordion after the screening and answer questions. This event will take place in Rodef Shalom Congregation's Levy Hall and is open to the public.
