Tickets and Security Measures During
High Holy Days
Lay leadership and staff have created a comprehensive security plan with community security professionals for the High Holy Days. This year, security includes: several armed security professionals, only two ways to enter and exit (Fifth Avenue and the parking lot),
and all tickets will be checked. Please plan to arrive early for services!
Those without a High Holy Days ticket will be asked to show a university, state, or federal issued photo I.D. Member tickets have been mailed. Not received or not a member? Call Temple at 412-621-6566 or

Adult B'Mitzvah Program
Year-Long Course Begins
Tuesday, October 22
Meeting Weekly Tuesday Evenings
7 P.M. - 8:30 P.M.
Second Floor Reference Library
If you have not yet had the honor to read from a Torah scroll, help lead a Shabbat service, or learn and teach Torah, participate in our new Adult B'Mitzvah program!
Every week on Tuesday evenings, together, we will:
- Explore Jewish thought, practice and ritual.
- Read and dig into the prayers and blessings of a worship service.
- Learn how to chant Torah.
- Develop the practice of d’var Torah writing.
Prerequisites and Cost:
- The ability to decode Hebrew words is a requirement for this class. Participants should have a basic knowledge of the alef-bet.
- Total cost for Adult B'Mitzvah course is $150 for materials.
Our final project will be leading the entire service for Erev Simchat Torah in October 2020. Our goal, in addition to all of the transformational learning, will be the creation of a warm and inclusive community.

Changing Demographics and Their Impact on Society and Politics: A View from Germany

The American Council on Germany, Classrooms Without Borders, and the ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius will host a discussion and luncheon with Ali Aslan, International Television Presenter and Journalist. There is no charge to attend this event.
Ali Aslan is an international renowned TV presenter and journalist with more than 20 years of experience as a talk-show host, news anchor, correspondent, and moderator. His journalistic career spans three continents and includes work for CNN in Washington, DC, ABC News in New York, Channel News Asia in Istanbul, and Deutsche Welle TV in Berlin. An experienced TV anchor, Mr. Aslan hosted the international talk show “Quadriga” on DW, which reached 200 countries and 90 million viewers each week. He regularly moderates at high-level global conferences and has shared the stage with top world leaders and personalities, including Angela Merkel, Emmanuel Macron, Justin Trudeau, Bill Clinton, and Christine Lagarde. Mr. Aslan studied international affairs and journalism at Columbia University and international politics at Georgetown University.

More Than Manischewitz - An Interfaith Course with Rabbi Mark Goodman
Begins Oct. 23
Jewish Federation of Pittsburgh
The Jewish Federation presents a course that will explore the complex mix of history and tradition, food and family, ritual and spiritual, and ancient and new aspects of Jewish life. This class will offer a taste of Jewishness as we tackle how to confront the challenges faced by today’s interfaith families. The course is scheduled for 7 p.m. - 8:15 p.m. on the following dates: Oct. 23, Nov. 6 and 20, Dec. 4 and 11, Jan. 15, 22, and 29, and Feb. 5, 12, 19, and 26. Front Desk Operating Hours Changed
Receptionist staffing for the front desk has shifted and will now be provided during the following hours:
Monday - Wednesday: 9:30 a.m. - close
Thursdays: 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Fridays: 9:30 a.m. - close
Saturdays: 9:30 a.m. - close
Sundays: 9:30 a.m. - close
Security staff will be at the front desk for all hours of our operations and will be here to greet members and visitors. This is a permanent change in operations.
