February is National Library Lovers month, the perfect time to celebrate your favorite library! The family of a local teacher celebrated their mother's retirement with a generous donation to Redwood City Public Library.
Michele Mairani taught kindergarten at Clifford School in Redwood City for 22 years. A die-hard library lover, she used the library extensively with her students to promote literacy. In honor of her retirement, her daughter and two sons presented the library with a tribute gift, which will be used to support the book collection in the children's room of the Downtown Library. A plaque in the children's room recognizes their donation in honor of Ms. Mairani's many years of teaching and her retirement. The donor recognition ceremony was held in the Downtown Library on Friday, February 17.
Her daughter said "my family couldn't think of a better tribute to our mom's years of service to RCSD and Clifford School than this gift to the library. Her love of learning, all thing books, children and Redwood City made this the only place we would consider honoring her. She believes that the library is one of the greatest resources a community can give its citizens that is available for FREE to everyone. We hope that the community can enjoy these new books in her honor." - Lauren, Brian & Ben Edelstein
You can celebrate National Library Lovers month by checking out a book (or two or three), investigating the many services and programs that RCPL offers, and/or making a donation here to the Redwood City Library Foundation to allow us to continue to support library initiatives.
