We all know that this is a challenging year for most people and businesses, and, as you know, Lakeside is no exception. Lakeside was concerned about incurring a substantial deficit in the first six months of the fiscal year as a result of COVID-19. In contrast, your generosity, valuable time, talent and resources, coupled with the Lakeside staff’s ingenuity and persistence, created a net surplus that is on target with Lakeside’s original pre-COVID-19 budget. Your generosity during the spring and summer ensured that Lakeside children, families and guests could continue to cherish the life changing Chautauqua program and traditions.
"The fact that Lakeside has been able to persevere through the hardships imposed by COVID-19 is a testament to the passion and dedication of our community members and staff," said Tom Jones, Lakeside Chautauqua Foundation Board Chair. "Lakesiders stepped up and joined the Volunteer Corps, gave their gifts earlier in the year and made the most out of this back-to-basics Chautauqua season."
Gate and hospitality revenues are both down substantially from both this year’s budget and last year’s results. However, that revenue loss has been completely offset by significant reductions in areas such as payroll, programming, other costs and by an increase in contributions. Your support helped bridge the gap and reduce the projected annual deficit.
