The race to attain an informational edge and generate alpha in the public equity markets is fiercer than ever. That said, the tools to extract insights from data have never been more powerful than they are today. While artificial intelligence (AI) may not be new in data-driven, systematic investing, we believe today’s AI techniques are unlocking new possibilities. The evolution of transformer technology, which underlies the generative AI tools that have captured the public imagination over the few years, has driven advances in investors’ ability to extract insights from large, complex, unstructured datasets.
In this presentation, we will aim to:
- Contextualize the recent advances we have seen in AI technology
- Discuss the opportunities and risks of implementing AI technology in an investment context
- Highlight examples from the Quantitative Investment Strategies team’s experience leveraging AI to extract valuable insights from data in the investment process, including examples of how companies such as Goldman Sachs are creating value, both internally and externally.
