Peace good people,
Starting on Friday, June 26, for 24 hours, over 2 days, we will be joined by some of the best culture workers, artists, and creatives to explore the recipe for culture in this time.
As a catalyst of change, Highlander Center invites all in community, especially those rooted in the South, to join us for
Cultural Bazaar
, a (virtual) fundraiser for movement where liberation and joy are celebrated and the recipe for culture is expanded. We create this space to help further our collective resources, and to inspire artists and culture bearers toward more vibrant action because we know that culture builds
EVERYTHING!
The Bazaar will feature performances and master classes, as well as 5 of the most dynamic and influential culture workers, who will not only share their time with us but will also create
5 new works
exclusively for the Bazaar!
They are:
jazz franklin
is an experimental filmmaker who works with a global network of artists, activists, and organizers called Gallery of the Streets.
Amber J. Phillips
(@AmberAbundance) is a storyteller, narrative & creative content strategist, and reproductive justice activist whose work imagines a world where Black womanhood is an expansive overwhelming experience of safety, pleasure, and joy.
Octavia Yearwood
is a Conceptual Artist, Programmatic curator, and Published Author whose work focuses on creating spaces for transformational change.
Joie Lou Shakur
is a Black Trans immigrant from Jamaica making medicine, organizing, and storytelling in the U.S South.
Toni
is a native born New Orleanian, a socialist, an organizer and an illustrator of fantastic art.
Je Naé Taylor
is a theatre practitioner, facilitator, and the Cultural Organizer for Highlander Research and Education Center. Her primary focus has been creating arts-based fellowship programs for Black Queer + TGNC people who have experienced incarceration, homelessness and displacement.
Hope to see you soon,
Je Nae Taylor
