Drawings by Sal Sirugo

Exhibition Opening today, January 21st, from 3-8pm

In conjunction with the 2022 edition of Master Drawings New York, we are thrilled to present the first solo exhibition of Abstract Expressionist artist Sal Sirugo in 12 years.
Sal Sirugo’s career in the arts blossomed at the height of the Abstract Expressionist movement, putting him in circles with artists like Lee Krasner, Alfonso Ossorio, Willem de Kooning, and Phillip Guston. He initially became involved in art through a program that encouraged patients to paint while he was at a Pennsylvanian hospital recovering from serious injuries sustained in World War II. Sirugo started exploring the dimensions of black and white painting early on because those shades were the most affordable paints. This did not inhibit Sirugo, however, it only emboldened him; over time, his impasto paintings made way for the intricate black and white drawings featured in this exhibition.

Within Small See Large will be on view through February 25th.
