The Ohio Technical Skills Innovation Network, or Ohio TechNet (OTN), is a statewide consortium of over 40 community colleges, universities, and technical centers that accelerate innovation to meet manufacturing and tech workforce needs. Facilitated by Lorain County Community College, OTN’s strategic areas of focus include reaching new audiences, expansion of innovative earn and learn, engaging industry, and faculty development.

Ohio TechNet invites you to join us Tuesday, May 20th, at 8:30 AM for an exciting session of peer-to-peer collaboration, access to valuable resources, and innovative program models designed to accelerate growth in Ohio's manufacturing and technical workforce.

Learn more about the following in Tuesday's meeting:

  • SEMI Foundation Update: Join Patrick Gillen as he shares the latest developments from the SEMI Foundation and The National Network for Microelectronics Education. Discover their key initiatives, including advancements in curriculum and training, efforts to enhance industry awareness, and strategies for expanding network and access opportunities.
  • Career Technical Education (CTE) Overview: Brett Doudican, representing Greene County Career Center, will provide an insightful overview of Career Technical Education (CTE), exploring its foundational models and key components, including CTAG and ITAG. He will highlight Greene County Career Center’s Advanced Manufacturing Pathway—an innovative, seamless education track that begins in Kindergarten, extends through high school, and culminates in a strategic partnership with Sinclair College. This collaboration enables students to earn an associate's degree in Manufacturing Engineering Technology, equipping them with essential industry skills and opportunities.
  • Careers in the Community: Joy Wolfel and Jen Bernett, from Mid-East CTC, will introduce an inspiring elementary-level program designed to ignite students’ curiosity about future careers. This successful initiative not only encourages early career exploration but also creates a seamless pathway, guiding students toward continued education and meaningful connections with Zane State’s programs.

Ohio TechNet 10th Anniversary Event: A Decade of Impact

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating this milestone. Your dedication and collaboration continue to shape the future of manufacturing education and workforce development.


Co-hosted with NextFlex, the Ohio TechNet 10th Anniversary Event brought together a dynamic community of educators, industry leaders, and workforce champions—all united in their commitment to advancing manufacturing talent and innovation. The day featured thought-provoking panels on Advancing Workforce Innovation in Manufacturing and compelling discussions on Education & Industry Collaboration, fostering strategic partnerships, and inspiring new workforce solutions.

Event Highlight: A standout moment of the event was hearing firsthand from two students whose journeys showcased the real-world impact of innovative earn-and-learn programs. One, now a graduate, shared insights from the employer’s perspective, while the other, preparing to graduate, reflected on the value of hands-on experience. Their stories highlighted the transformative power of education-industry collaboration, demonstrating how these programs create meaningful opportunities for both students and employers.

One-Day Workshop: Forging and Welding

Advanced Metalworking for Educators & the Future of Manufacturing This workshop is designed for high school teachers and community college/trade school instructors with prior metalworking or manufacturing experience.


July 22nd, 8 AM - 4 PM at The Ohio State University - Columbus, OH


Ignite your students’ passion for manufacturing and metalworking. Apply to join us for a one-day workshop where you will deepen your knowledge about forging and welding through hands-on activities, live demonstrations, and interactive panel discussions from specialists from The Ohio State University and NSF HAMMER-ERC. Discover cutting-edge advancements that are shaping the future of manufacturing and gain valuable insights into metalworking to enhance your teaching.

About NSF HAMMER-ERC: The National Science Foundation (NSF) Hybrid Autonomous Manufacturing Moving from Evolution to Revolution Engineering Research Center (HAMMER-ERC) is developing a new approach to design and manufacturing, putting product needs first and then finding new manufacturing pathways based on the agility of artisans and reproducibility of machines. NSF HAMMER-ERC is the hub for technical, commercial, educational, and standard-setting for Hybrid Autonomous Manufacturing knowledge creation, deployment, and commercial development.

Building Pathways to Success

The National Career Pathways Network (NCPN) is offering a dynamic series of virtual workshops designed to support educators and counselors in aligning career pathways for learners. These expert-led sessions cover essential topics such as career preparation ecosystems, pathway mapping, apprenticeship integration, and employability skills development.

Participants will gain actionable strategies to enhance student success and workforce readiness.
