Spotlight on Eagle Projects: Ananya’s Inspiring Mural

We're excited to launch a new segment showcasing Eagle Projects completed throughout our Council! Today, we celebrate Eagle Scout Ananya and her vibrant mural at Whitney High School.

Ananya envisioned her project as a way to brighten a dull area in the school quad. After extensive planning and collaboration with school administrators and troop leaders, she brought together 48 volunteers over four workdays to create a stunning mural that spells out "WHITNEY." Each letter reflects unique aspects of her school:

  • W for cultural diversity
  • H for various school clubs
  • I for the sciences
  • T for mathematics
  • N for visual arts, including film and theater
  • E for the humanities
  • Y for multiple school sports

Reflecting on her journey, Ananya learned to "trust the process," realizing that despite initial doubts, the final mural far exceeded her original sketches. “I am proud of this mural and grateful for the skills Scouting helped me develop,” she shared.

If you know an Eagle Scout with a project to share, we’d love to hear their story. Contact Cicily Gardea to submit your story!

Welcome Trevor Ullom to Greater LA Scouting!

We’re thrilled that Trevor Ullom is joining the Greater LA Scouting team as our new Program and Events Manager! Trevor brings a wealth of experience from key roles across multiple councils, including the Pathway to Adventure Council in Chicago and the Orange County Council, as well as his previous work with us. His expertise in event organization, youth engagement, and volunteer network development will greatly enhance our programs. He will be the lead for Council-wide projects and events, including Rocket Academy, BooFest, and the Annual Dinner on January 22, 2025.

Originally from the East Coast, Trevor has called Alpharetta, GA; Fort Lauderdale, FL; and Naperville, IL, home before settling in Orange County, CA. He has been happily married to his wife, Fiorella, for over 18 years, and they have one son, Luke. Trevor and Luke are proud Eagle Scouts with a shared love for the outdoors.

Trevor is passionate about inspiring and empowering young people to build leadership skills, embrace responsibility, and develop a love for adventure and service. In addition to his work with Scouting, he serves as an advisor for Post 558 Military Exploring Post, helping young people explore careers in the military—a path that his son plans to pursue after high school.

We’re excited to have Trevor on board and look forward to his positive impact on our community. Welcome to the team, Trevor!

TNT Weekend: A Resounding Success!

From October 25-27, the Rose Bowl District hosted its first Training and Transition (TNT) Weekend at Camp Trask, attracting nearly 200 participants from multiple districts! AOL scouts enjoyed earning electives like Swimming, Into the Wild, and Archery, while over 35 parents received training in Baloo and IOLS outdoor skills.

Participants appreciated the blend of fun activities and preparation for bridging, with Troop 4’s Scott Jennings calling it “brilliant.” The weekend kicked off with troops settling in on Friday night, followed by a safety orientation and Cracker Barrel refreshments. On Saturday, AOL units navigated station rotations guided by fellow scouts while parents engaged in training.

The weekend concluded with a Scout's Own service led by Troop 4’s boys and girls units.

A heartfelt thank you to all the leaders and volunteers who made this event a success, especially co-chairs Phillip Uebele and Dan Kale, along with the dedicated instructors. We hope our AOL scouts are inspired to bridge to local troops for even more adventure!

Essential Camping Operations Training!

Saturday, December 7th from 9 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.

Want to get involved in your District or Council Camping Operations? Join us for vital training to meet short-term camp standards!

A short-term camp is any council-organized overnight camping program lasting one to three nights, where staffing and program support are provided by the council. This includes camps held off council properties. National training courses adhere to short-term camp requirements as outlined in NCAP standard SA-001. This role includes inspecting the property, managing necessary paperwork, confirming facility safety, and ensuring health, safety, and sanitation standards are met.

Don't miss this opportunity to enhance your skills and contribute to successful camping experiences in your community!

The Importance of Your Contribution to Scouting

Your support in 2024 is crucial for creating a safe, inclusive environment where every child can belong, grow, and thrive.

When you contribute to the Friends of Scouting annual campaign, you directly fund the essential Council costs that allow us to operate and enhance Scouting in your communities.

As we aim to raise $250,000 by the end of the year, your generosity can also earn you exciting incentive items! Contributions of varying levels can qualify you for merchandise, an entry to an opportunity drawing for Gala tickets, and recognition within your Scouting community.

We recognize the time and money you have already dedicated to your local units and packs. However, supporting the council is critical to allow all Scouts access to enriching programs, training, and facilities that elevate their experience.

To learn more about Friends of Scouting and how your contributions make a difference, please visit greaterlascouting.org/fos/ or contact Charissa Gonzales. Together, we can make a meaningful impact in the lives of young people. Your support today shapes a brighter tomorrow, and we sincerely appreciate your commitment to Scouting! Thank you for being an invaluable part of our mission!

2026 National Jamboree!

Summit Bechtel Reserve, July 22-31, 2026

Jamboree is more than a destination. It’s the adventure of a lifetime. And there is simply nothing else like it on the planet.

What’s a Jamboree? It’s not camp. National Jamboree is 360 degrees of fun, friends, and fellowship with a hands-on adventure that takes you places you never thought you’d go and challenges you to try things you never thought you could. It’s the beginning of your own hero’s journey that will challenge you to go farther than you ever thought possible. You’ll reach deeper and lift yourself higher to become the best version of yourself.

Whether you would like to apply to attend as an adult leader or you are considering sending your Scout to attend as a participant, please click here so we can stay in touch with you. We are actively looking for contingent adult leadership.

For 2026, Greater LA Scouting will be teaming up with West LA Council and Orange County Council to offer several pre/post-Jamboree tour options (including a Jamboree-only option) that we hope will accommodate both schedules and a range of affordability for the maximum number of Scouts. We’ll share more information as it becomes available.
