About the Food Pantry
In 2019, the ACCA Food Pantry made 643 deliveries to households that included 1870 men, women and children. The Pantry supplies fresh, frozen, dried and canned goods as well as toilet paper, detergents, soap, and diapers. Each delivery consists of a 7-10 day supply. An additional 450 families were assisted with a 3-5 day supply. Referrals come from social workers, schools, Homestretch, ACCA churches, other organizations, and concerned neighbors. We also provide food in lieu of financial support so families can use their limited funds to avoid eviction or cut-off of utilities.
The Pantry maintains inventory to serve 15 – 30 families each week. We also attempt to accommodate special diets and ethnic preferences. We are grateful to approximately 100 volunteers who serve in a variety of roles including food captains who receive referrals by email or phone and contact volunteers to make deliveries, food buyers, those who transport donated food from the churches and those who maintain the Pantry and administer the program.
Local students earn community service through the work at the pantry. We have modified our program to reach more families. We have provided food for distribution at Annandale High School, Bailey’s Elementary School, Bailey’s Shelter, and other food banks when we have an excess.
Would you like to help out? Volunteers who can work from home coordinating deliveries as well as delivery drivers are always needed.
