Principal's Message

Dear Saints Simon & Jude Community,

This week the students and teachers did a wonderful job of staying focused and on task while the festival was being built on our campus. I know many of you are volunteering for various booths and have provided baked goods and sweets for Cafe SSJ. Thank you for your support and generosity of time. You might be interested to know that the festival is organized by the parish and all proceeds go to the parish. The school simply gets to enjoy this wonderful event! I mention this because one of the students asked me why I had gotten rid of the Sea Dragon Ride. I have absolutely no influence on the choice of rides, food offerings, entertainment, or hours. The festival is a “fun”raiser for everyone in the community. I hope everyone has a chance to spend some time at the festival this weekend and then enjoys Monday off.

We welcomed back our sixth grade campers today after three days of fun and learning experiences. I am sure they have many tales to tell about their adventures and there is no doubt that they are tired. Thank you Mr. Walton and Mrs. Frlekin for watching over our 6th graders.

Tuesday is the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. Our community knows all about the works of St. Francis and the charism associated with the Franciscans. One of the gifts associated with St. Francis was his affinity with animals and so on his feast day we Bless the Animals. You are invited to bring your pet to pick up on Tuesday and as you leave Fr. Reynold will bless your pet in the car as you leave the parking lot. Please keep your pet in the car as pets are not allowed on campus.

Reminder: next week is Parent Conference Week with everyday a 12:30 dismissal. The teachers appreciate students being picked up promptly as conferences begin immediately after dismissal. Thank you for taking the time to meet with your child’s teacher.

October is a busy month full of events and activities. Please read to the bottom of Dolphin Chatter to keep informed. I would like to draw your attention to one new event. We have added a morning coffee and conversation on Thursday, October 13th - please RSVP so we know how many to plan for - hope to see everyone there!

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has announced that it is ending the COVID-19 policies that required weekly COVID-19 testing for unvaccinated and under vaccinated workers in high-risk workplaces and schools. The August 11, 2021 State Public Health Officer Order concerning Vaccine Verification for Workers in Schools will be rescinded effective September 17, 2022. This pertains to parent volunteers at schools as well. So going forward, volunteers will only need to be Live Scanned and complete the Safe Environment Training in order to be cleared to be on campus.
