The Institute for Spiritual Development
Oneonta Chapter
A Metaphysical Church and School for Spiritual Development
“There are random moments - tossing a salad, coming up the driveway to the house, ironing the seams flat on a quilt square, standing at the kitchen window and looking out at the delphiniums, hearing a burst of laughter from one of my children's rooms - when I feel a wavelike rush of joy. This is my true religion: arbitrary moments of nearly painful happiness for a life I feel privileged to lead.”
― Elizabeth Berg, The Art of Mending

Some Oneonta news from your pastor...

ISD Oneonta belongs to the Oneonta Interfaith Network, under the direction of Cynthia L. Walton-Leavitt (Rev. Dr.) of the Red Door Presbyterian Church.
The interfaith community occasionally has projects that request our support and to get the word out. The Thanksgiving Community Dinner is one of these collaborative efforts.
If you would like to lend a hand to help people who are going through difficult times, The Oneonta Thanksgiving Community Dinner will be preparing 800 meals to feed our neighbors on Thanksgiving Day, and is now seeking volunteers and monetary donations. Click on this flyer for details.

Other good news in this email from Rev. Cynthia to the Hunger Coalition about the successful completion of the Warming Station Project at Main St. in Oneonta:
"The Warming Station was opened yesterday at 189 Main St., with a gathering of three new staff members and returning supervisor Cindy King, Tracey Martindale and Lynn Glueckert from Catholic Charities, Ken Zulkosky and Tim Sheesley from Main St. Baptist, and me. After sharing encounters in recent days with people who may benefit from coming to the Warming Station and highlighting those who were helped last season – Tim and Ken closed our time together with prayer for the staff, guests who come through the doors, and all those who are working to make the warming station possible. You know who you are – thank you.”
They are open 7 days a week between 5:30 pm and 7:30 am- people can stop in and get shelter from the cold, get something to eat, and even stay overnight. Breakfast Snacks, Ramen noodle soup, and many, many more items are needed for this very worthy project. More info about giving donations, volunteering, and further info about the Warming Station can be found on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/oneontawarmingstation/

Much Love, Rev. Diana
From the ISD Membership Committee:
GTTAGSC (Getting Together To Avoid Going Stir Crazy) Socials

Time to join together in person!!

ISD is looking to revamp our after-church hospitality social hour. We are looking for people to host small afternoon or evening (candlelight) potluck socials.
Potlucks are fantastic ways to connect or reconnect with others, share a meal the food preparation, showcase a favorite dish or try out a new dish, and share our latest updates with each other.
If you are interested in volunteering as a host, email me at the email address below. Let me know how many guests and your preference for an afternoon or evening meal.

One more quick note from Sherry about in-person gatherings:

The holiday season is about 7 weeks away. Many missed having our Holiday/Christmas party last year. We want to know how many are interested in having an in-person party where the selected space is large enough for social distancing and following the CDC Guidelines.

Unembellished R. Ranke

Jeweled leaves of red, and gold, and brown
Have drifted to the ground
Desiccated they are blown away on Autumn’s biting winds
Trunks weathered and powerful
Reveal scars left behind by winding ivy

Spring will come soon enough
Bringing new glorious foliage
But now is the time to rest and renew

It was time to shed that which has shrouded us
Unembellished, our true beauty shines outward
Strong and sturdy roots anchor us
Feel them holding, nourishing, supporting
Branches bare reach towards the heavens with longing

Forward, forward, always forward
Feel the Divine warmth
Warming eternally even through the most bitter cold

Now we go within with Love
Trail our fingers across the bare bark
Follow the rings in our trunk
Gently kiss the roughness and caress the smoothness
Heal the scars, unwind the vines

Our Weekly Astrological Forecast

Connie’s Celestial Conversations

ASTROLOGY FORCAST (Nov 3 - 10)

As we reach the end of this year's harvest season and start to transition into the earliest stages of our winter, we are accompanied by a few significant star events this week. We also are going into another Eclipse season this month.

The New Moon in Scorpio on Thursday, Nov 4th, gives us a chance to put an exclamation point on this harvest. Try to utilize the great good luck of Jupiter who rules Thursdays. What is worth holding on to, and what no longer serves? The waning moon is always a chance to ask that question. Scorpio energies bring an intensity to the decision. This day has the added magic of of being an "11" day. 11/4/2021 is 1+1+4+2+0+2+1 = 11. Eleven is the first master number in Numerology. The date corresponding to the day of the New Moon provides its own alchemy!

The opportunity is presenting itself to once again leave behind what no longer serves. To the degree you can bring the feminine traits of flexibility and flow to the changes you have been wishing to make, the path will be much more satisfying. Your Soul and guide teams have undoubtedly been presenting you with numerous examples of life patterns you might adopt, and others you can now "return to love". You may be quite exhausted if you have been on this part of the journey for a while. Take heart because this month will bring you new cosmic energies to greatly assist. If you have been resisting, it is not too late to change your mind. Concentrate on techniques that bring you joy and inspiration.

Immediately following that on Friday, Nov 5th is the beginning of the waxing moon, and two planets changing signs. Time to manifest.

Mercury enters Scorpio making a brief, but VERY powerful stellium of 4 planets in intense Scorpio. The Sun, Moon, Mercury, and Mars make this a brilliant few days to prepare to get the very best results from the approaching Eclipse season. Communications may run amok if allowed free rein. Wait to speak or write. The Scorpio influence may also provide the ability to delve deeply into the truthfulness of communications during this transit. Scorpio assists discernment when desired.

Also on Friday, Nov 5th Venus enters Capricorn for an extended stay since she will station retrograde in that sign in December and January. I will take another opportunity to urge you to combine Astronomy with Astrology at this time. Glorious, beautiful Venus is a beacon in our evening sky right now. The Supreme Goddess energies are shining down upon us in the western sky. Step outside and commune with her! Let her love guide you as never before. Her - and Our - time has come! She brings a practicality to our lives in business and all relationships while in Capricorn. That creates a real possibility for long term, very useful manifestation.

But more than that, she has been a beacon to humanity throughout our eons long journey. She whispers to us. We "hear with our eyes" as we drink in her beauty. She has shined in our morning and evening skies for long ages helping us to REMEMBER beauty, grace, love. Partner with her now. You won't regret it!

And the Good News Is!!!!!

  • Meet Khuwy the oldest Egyptian mummy ever found and who may just have changed our understanding of Egyptian history. Apparently the mummification techniques used on Khuwy prove that the Egyptians had advanced techniques 1,000 years earlier than originally thought. Check out the Business Insider article Here

  • An Incredible story about the miracles nature is able to manifest. Read This MSN News article about two California condors who gave birth with no help from the males. These ‘virgin’ avian births have never been recorded in condors before and this new discovery brings fresh hope that the endangered species may recover.

  • Sure our span of ‘retrogrades’ is over, but have you noticed that there are still strange things going on with your internet or your electronics? It could be due to a span of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) being produced by the sun since Monday. This Space.com article details the latest ‘cannibal’ CME that may have caused geomagnetic storms through today.

Do you or someone you know need some assistance with mental health issues or coping. Here is a link to the US Department of Health & Human Services that will provide you with resources and tools to help deal with the stress.

Got Bottles & Cans to return?

ISD has a CLYNK account at Hannaford in Oneonta.

Good News!!!

Returning Deposit Bottles to Hannaford:
Our CLYNK Account now has $239, and is growing, with the addition of about 20 bags of returnables donated by Pat Robinson.
Have you got some returnable cans and bottles to turn in ?
Its a nice way to make progress on your clean-up projects, and help the environment out by re-cycling, and benefitting ISD Oneonta!
Many thanks to Tom Landon and Diana Friedell, who delivered & tagged all of those hundreds of items to Hannaford for credit.
If you would like info about the CLYNK project, and want to get the right tags for your bags, please reach out to Diana Friedell at isdoneonta@gmail.com
Just a reminder that we are continuing our Prayer Warriors group, every day at 5pm we pause to pray and send our healing energies where they are most needed right now

Each day at 5 PM EST, we will pause for about 10 minutes and meditate and pray with the intention of sending healing energy to all.
You do not have to be present each day. Requests for healing or suggestions should be submitted to our Healing Program director, Jo Ann Wormuth at the below ISD website link:

What is the Institute for Spiritual Development?
It's both a metaphysical church and an educational center originally founded 40 yrs ago in Sparta, NJ. With the belief that all paths lead us Home, ISD is dedicated to helping each spirit walk their path with courage and joy.
We stand for each individual’s right to seek their own personal Truth, as they respect the same right for others. We honor the sacred texts of all traditions of the Light.

The Oneonta NY chapter of ISD was Lovingly created by Rev. Diana Friedell & her sister Rev. Sue Landon. We are now led by a powerful leadership team, and executive board.

ISD is a spiritual community that focuses on healing and intuitive connection, and the joy of finding the spirit connection within rather than being told how it should or could be experienced.
We welcome those who want to belong to a spiritual group of like-minded people, in which you can explore and find your own path in a community of love and support.

There are classes, services, events, and a sense of community and fellowship. Energy healing and intuitive messages are delivered as a regular part of the worship service. Classes offer many tools which will help you on your life path, and the community we are creating together is one of openness and acceptance, and the ability to adapt with change and growth.
Welcome Home!!!
We could use your help. If you would like to volunteer to help with our Metaphysical Library, event planning, service planning, website, office tasks, or anything else- Just call or email! Diana!
