"Among many other things, the residents of Powell River, BC were one of my favourite parts of the festival. Just seeing the joy, excitement, and support that these people gave to the festival was amazing, and performances were made so much more enjoyable by the enthusiasm of the audiences."
-Shannon Fitzhenry, 2015 & 2016 PRISMA Student

These fundraisers are excellent ways to kick start a new season... which happens to be our 5th anniversary this year! We have a pretty "sweet" announcement on how we'll start celebrating. As we begin gearing up for our 5th season, it's also time to recruit volunteers for our amazing team. Check out the postings below and get in touch with us if you're interested in joining the PRISMA team as a volunteer.

While we ring in our 5th year, we're also excited to celebrate Canada 150+ at PRISMA on the Beach, acknowledging the cultural richness of our region in 150 years of Canada and beyond, in collaboration with Tla'amin Nation, the City of Powell River and the Powell River Regional District. Stay tuned for more details on this Canada 150 event in PR on Wednesday, June 14!

Volunteer with PRISMA

Join the PRISMA team! Volunteers are the lifeblood of the organization, and work under the guidance of a combination of professional and volunteer staff and a dedicated board of directors. Enjoy contributing to the arts in a fun environment while earning complimentary access to festival concert(s).

STUDENT SERVICES ASSISTANT
This position provides support for the 80-100 students who attend the festival.  Organizational and some computer skills are needed. Past experience with students is helpful.  This part-time position runs from approx. May 29th-June 28th.

GREEN INITIATIVES COORDINATOR
This new position was created to reduce PRISMA's ecological footprint. As 100+ musicians come to Powell River to play for thousands of audience members, how can we adopt proven systems and think outside the box to reduce waste?

HOMESTAYS
With our move towards free tuition for as many students as possible with the Musical Merit Scholarship Fund, we need more homestays than ever!   Our students come to Powell River from all over the world, and the community of Powell River is frequently cited as one of their favourite parts of the festival. If you're interested in billeting a student or two or have any questions, do contact us.

See PRISMA's Volunteer Agreement & Code of Conduct at  prismafestival.com/volunteer for benefits and general expectations.

Moscow Conducting Master Class

Last month, young conductors travelled to Moscow for a Conducting Master Class with Maestro Arnold and the Moscow Symphony Orchestra. Here's what one student had to say about his experience:

"Maestro Arnold's master class in Russia was among the most beneficial courses I have ever had.  It is amazing how much he was able to teach and have me retain in just three days. His teaching style and use of video is very unique, and the Moscow Symphony Orchestra will push you to improve quickly. The benefit of working with an orchestra this talented and responsive is that it will quickly expose flaws in your technique, and allow you to correct them very quickly. The orchestra is also among the most friendly and welcoming with which I have ever worked! I cannot recommend working with Maestro Arnold enough."
