Pastor Trudy's Message

Moving toward resurrection. We began our work back on Ash Wednesday, working to create space.  We've journeyed through this Lenten season being challenged by Gospels that called us to make space for grief, for naming our desires, for releasing into the knowledge of God's love revealed in baptism.  We will continue our work, lingering at the table on Thursday and the cross on Friday. And then we will light a new fire on Saturday and name the light and hope that has been with us all along. The question is, once we have made the space for these things, what will we do with the space we've created?  

Mighty Lord, You hold all things in Your hands, most especially these days that call us to ponder the deepest mystery of our faith. Why is suffering needed? What does suffering accomplish? You receive our questions, then speak Your response through the life, death and resurrection of Your Son, Jesus, in whose name we pray. Amen.

Go in peace, walk in the way of the cross.  

If Jesus rose on the “third day,” why is Easter only two days after Good Friday?

Easter Sunday flowers will be available to be taken after the 10:30AM service on Sunday.

• The church sang glad hosannas as we entered Holy Week. Prepare us to bear witness to Christ’s suffering and death endured for our sake. Gather Your people around the cross and comfort us with resurrection hope.
• Simple branches were offered as a way to welcome Your reign on earth. As the trees in the Northern Hemisphere put forth buds and flowers poke up from the ground and seeds begin to awaken, remind us to celebrate this new life as a sign of Your kingdom among us.
• Bring hope to any who feel forsaken or forgotten. Make a way for refugees and asylum seekers. Reunite families enduring separation. We pray for any who are incarcerated, institutionalized, or in foster care, that they may know your love. 
• We pray for Leif, Erik, John, Barbara, Tom, and all those going through transitions, testing, and health concerns.
• Surely You must weep that we still cannot see the things which make for peace in this world. Be patient with our slowness to act and our inability to recognize Your grace-filled opportunities to bring about justice.
• Accompany us as we journey through all the holy weeks in our lives.

Northern Illinois Food Bank

We will be packing food at Northern IL Food Bank in Geneva 9AM-11:30AM on Wednesday, April 17. If you would like to volunteer contact Martha Sobie by Wednesday, April 3.
