CARE FOR CREATION NEWS: ELECTRONIC WASTE RECYCLING DRIVE THIS WEEKEND Worldwide, about 40 million tons of electronic waste is generated every year. This is the equivalent of throwing away 800 laptops every second. The St. James Care for Creation committee is partnering with 1 Green Planet to encourage you to bring your old or unused electronics and appliances to Cathedral Hall (907 Columbia St.) before Masses on January 22-23. NEW YEAR’S EVE CONCERT RESCHEDULED TO FEBRUARY 5 The St. James Cathedral Cantorei and Baroque Chamber Orchestra will present music of Vivaldi and Corelli on February 5 at 8:00pm, in a concert marking the end of the Christmas season. VISIT THE CATHEDRAL COLUMBARIUM  The Cathedral’s new Columbarium was blessed by Archbishop Etienne on December 22, 2021. A columbarium is a cemetery for the reverent burial of cremated remains. The way we honor the mortal remains of our deceased family members and friends is a reflection of the faith we profess in the Nicene Creed: we believe in the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. The columbarium is now open for prayer whenever the Cathedral is open. It is a beautiful place to visit and pray for all our beloved dead. MASS WITH ANOINTING OF THE SICK On Friday, February 11, the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, Father Ryan will celebrate a special Mass at 12:10pm including the sacrament of the anointing of the sick. If you are seriously ill, facing surgery, or experiencing the weakness that comes with old age, you are encouraged to celebrate this sacrament of healing.

"THE GRACE OF GOD": ST VINCENT DE PAUL THANKS YOU An older woman recovering from gallbladder surgery was found to have blood clots in her lungs. On top of feeling unwell, she worried about paying her rent. Her devoted son usually paid a portion of her rent but could not that month when he lost his unemployment benefits and suffered from a long case of Covid. The woman called the SVdP Helpline requesting assistance (206-767-6449). When we made a pledge to make a payment toward her rent, the woman told us through tears that it was through the grace of God she received rent help and that her son had found a new job. RACIAL JUSTICE WITH FATHER DAN HORAN, OFM In this workshop Fr. Dan, author of A White Catholic’s Guide to Racism and Privilege, invites us to actively address racism and become collaborators with our Black sisters and brothers as we work for racial justice in our society and Church. JOB OPENING: WEDDING AND FUNERAL COORDINATOR St. James Cathedral has an opening for Wedding and Funeral Coordinator. In addition to responsibility for scheduling and overseeing steps in the wedding and funeral process, and interfacing with individuals and families, this position will provide administrative and pastoral support services to the parish. Applicant must be an active member of a Catholic parish, have excellent people skills, and be familiar with Microsoft Office and Excel. JOURNEYING TOGETHER: PARTICIPATING IN THE SYNOD The local phase of the Synod is getting underway! A synod is a gathering of the Church. The word literally means “together on the way,” and that is the primary question the Synod is asking: How have you experienced the Church that “journeys together”? And how are we called to journey together in the future? Beginning in Lent and continuing into Easter Time, every member of the Cathedral Parish will be invited to participate in a Synod gathering to reflect on and share our experiences of Church.
