Daven downtown with us

Daylight Savings Time can make it difficult to daven mincha/maariv at home, so we are re-starting our 1:35 PM mincha and/or our 4:30 PM mincha/maariv services. We’ve created a Whatsapp group so we can coordinate our schedules; if you’d like to join this group and daven with us, please click here.

Tell America’s leaders to Stand with Israel!

Anti-Israel activists are calling members of Congress and telling them to abandon Israel. Make your pro-Israel voice heard by calling your elected officials to make clear you stand with our ally Israel against Hamas terrorism.

You do not have to limit your efforts to your members of Congress alone. For a full list of AIPAC's Congressional Call Center, click here.

Our list of ways to support Israel just got much more comprehensive!

For our full and recently updated list, please click here. While this list has been compiled from reliable sources, there are also a lot of scam artists taking advantage of the situation, so please thoroughly research any organization you decide to support.

Send a Letter to an IDF Soldier

We would like to encourage you to write an Israeli Soldier though Aish and send your support. These soldiers will want to hear from you to know we have their backs! To write them, please click here.

We are not for ourselves alone

As downtown continues returning to normal we are seeing a surge in guests, and their visits underscore one of the primary reasons we exist.

On Thursday and Friday last week, we were joined by Ralph and Bea Rosenbaum, who were visiting from East Brunswick, NJ. They enjoyed their time with our community so much, that they also joined us at the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center to hear Hazzan Jonathan Kohan commemorate Kristallnacht. On Tuesday, we were also joined by Baruch Fertel from Cleveland Heights, OH, who was in Chicago for a conference and needed a minyan. On Wednesday, we were joined by Jeff Shachat, who was here for a conference from Oakland, CA.

Next time you or your guests are downtown, please join us for a minyan. For more information, click here.

This has been an extraordinarily difficult time as we have watched the horror unfolding in Israel and uncertainty for what the future holds. This is a time of intense emotions, including anxiety, anger, sadness, and deep wells of grief, especially as so many of us have family, friends and colleagues in Israel. JCFS Chicago is available to assist you and members of your community through these challenging times.

JCFS has opened a warm line for anyone looking for support. Call (855) 275-5237 to talk with someone, including Hebrew-speaking emotional support professionals, between 9 AM and 5 PM Monday through Thursday and 9 AM-4 PM on Fridays.

Rooted in teachings from the Torah and sages, Jewish free loans are a time-honored tradition in the U.S. and beyond. In fact, most U.S. cities play host to at least one Jewish or Hebrew Free Loan agency. Unlike JFLC, some Jewish loan societies cater only to the needs of the Jewish community and do not have income caps. JFLC serves low-to moderate-income people of all backgrounds who need access to capital.

JFLC borrowers’ financial status can be wide-ranging, and their potential financial needs can also run the gamut, including:

  • General expenses: transportation, technology, and debt consolidation
  • Employment: job-search, initial costs (transportation/relocation), job training
  • Healthcare: medical, mental, and dental
  • Women & children: childcare, education, fertility, adoption
  • Education: tuition, supplies
