The Living Cultures Grant seeks to sustain and strengthen traditional arts in the state of California with $5,000 grants to individual artists/culture bearers and $12,500 grants to California-based nonprofits and Tribal Nations, as well as other organizations and community groups who work with fiscal sponsors.

Starting May 27th, ACTA mentor artist Youngmin Lee and apprentice Mariah Bintliff will have an exhibit at the Hanging Thread Gallery at the San Francisco School of Needlework and Design titles Bojagi: Piecing Time and Tradition Together (May 27 through July 8, 2023).
"As a part of our apprenticeship program's public engagement we will show a variety of our individual works, apprenticeship projects and collaborative pieces. If you are in the Bay Area, please join us on the opening day or stop by the San Francisco School of Needlework and Design any time until the exhibit close date of July 8th. La Cultura Cura: Las artes tradicionales para sanarnos es una serie de 4 talleres gratuitos y participativos enfocados en cómo las prácticas culturales pueden apoyar nuestra sanación a través de contar historias, comidas culturales, milagros/amuletos, composición de canciones y otras prácticas culturales cotidianas para la comunidad Latina. Los talleres son bilingües en español e inglés y se llevan a cabo principalmente en línea.
6.7.23 | Contar y escuchar historias: platillos culturales y sanadores
Recordar, compartir, escuchar y conectar historias personales a través de una discusión sobre la comida y la cultura como sanación.
6.14.23 | El milagro de bienestar: una ofrenda personal
Reflexionar sobre lo que su cuerpo necesita ahora y crear un Milagro, o un amuleto curativo y un breve poema/oración para apoyar su sanación.
6.21.23 | El rebozo de bienestar: afirmando nuestra sanación para el duelo y la pérdida
Reflexionar sobre el rebozo como un abrazo cultural, compartir sobre cómo la cultura nos apoya en tiempos de duelo, y crear incienso casero como un ejemplo.
6.28.23 | La música alivia: composición colectiva para salir adelante
Crear una canción colectivamente utilizando una estructura de canción tradicional o popular que contará una historia de reflexiones, lecciones e ideas creando conexión y una visión compartida.

La Cultura Cura: The traditional arts for healing is a series of 4 free and participatory workshops focused on how cultural practices can support our healing through storytelling, cultural foods, milagro charms, songwriting, and other day to day cultural practices for the Latino/a/x community. The workshops are bilingual in Spanish and English and primarily held online.
6.7.23 | Share and listen to stories: cultural healing dishes
Recall, share, listen and connect personal histories through a discussion on food and culture as healing.
6.14.23 | The milagro charm of wellbeing: a personal offering
Reflect on what your body needs now and create a Milagro, or healing charm and a short poem/prayer to support your healing.
6.21.23 | The rebozo of wellbeing: affirming our healing for grief and loss
Reflect on the rebozo [shawl/scarf] as a cultural embrace, share how culture supports us in times of grief and create homemade incense as an example.
6.28.23 | Music heals: collective songwriting to move forward
Create a collective song using a traditional or popular song structure that will tell a story of reflections, lessons, and ideas building connection and a shared vision.
