The OkEq gallery at the Dennis R Neill Equality Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma is now accepting proposals for the 2020 Exhibition Calendar. Our gallery encourages artists who create fresh, challenging work in all media to apply.
Details
Each chosen exhibit will be on display for approximately 30 days. OkEq will host the opening night reception for the artist(s), on the first Thursday of the month. Each exhibit is installed on the Tuesday prior. No additional work will be accepted after initial delivery. Work must be available for sale. There will be a 30% commission on work sold. Artists will also provide artwork labels (title, price, etc) for each piece. A bio and artist statement is due to the OkEq gallery on the 1st of the month prior to the exhibit, for publicity purposes.
How to Apply:
Proposals should include a paragraph or two about your vision for an exhibit, as well as 5 jpg images which represent your current work. All proposals must be submitted by email. Proposals incorporating the work of two artists or a small group are also acceptable. Artists who have not shown in the gallery before will be given priority consideration.
Please let us know if your idea for an exhibit will require months to prepare or if you have calendar
restrictions. We would also like to know if you could be ready to go quickly, as those early months are sometimes hard to fill.
Deadline for submissions is October 7th, 2019.
Notifications will be sent out by November 1, 2019.

Star of the stage and screen, Travis Guillory jumps off the news anchor desk and onto the cabaret stage with “Headlines & Kicklines.” Singing songs of roles he’s played, roles he’d like to play, and roles they won’t let him play, the song and dance man will be joined by Claire Schroepfer, John Burns, Kara Staiger, Nicholas Cains and Margaret Stall, accompanied by Christy Stalcup on the piano. Prepare for an evening of laughter, music, and witnessing a news man attempt to hit notes that probably should be left up to a trained singer.

The OKEQ History Project Needs your Help
Our History Project team has been working on archiving footage, artifacts, and newspaper clippings from 1980 to the present day. We have pieces of Oklahoma LGBTQ+ history that span forty years, but we need your help! Do you have old newspapers at your house that mention OKEQ? Do you have Pride shirts from 1999? Videos from past galas?
Consider donating or loaning them to our history project so we can digitize and make our archive searchable to the public!
Bring any and all artifacts to the center! We are open 7 days a week from 9am-9pm!

Art Opening & Exhibit featuring the works of Lgbtq+ Youth

This October Oklahomans for Equality (OkEq) will showcase and exhibit local LGBTQ+ Youth artists at the Dennis R. Neill Equality Center beginning with a reception on Thursday, October 3rd from 6-9pm and continuing throughout the month. “Youth Invasion” will open October 1 st for a month-long show at the Dennis R. Neill Equality Center,
The artwork will be available for purchase at the show.
The show is a collaborative effort of over fifteen young artists from Tulsa and the surrounding areas. Many of the youth come from Alphabet SOUP, Oklahomans for Equality Center’s Youth Group, Youth Services of Tulsa, and Camp Fire Green Country. The exhibit contains a wide variety of two- and three-dimensional media, including canvas, clay, and assemblage. This exhibit features teens’ unique take on the issues they face today. This show is a visual
exploration of identity and representation. Today’s youth are no stranger to the conscious act of curating the private and public self on a daily basis.
This show allows one to look through the eyes of today’s LGBTQ+ youth. The youth who attend Alphabet SOUP, began imagining a show for the art gallery at The Dennis R. Neill Equality Center early in the year. The young people have a unique and noteworthy view of the world, and wanted to express their view using the language of art. The youth have been working throughout the year to create and refine the pieces they felt best represented them to be included on this exhibit. Their art will both challenge and expire visitors. The show continues through October 31st.
The show begins with a reception where there will be a door prize drawn of the artist’s work. The show continues throughout the month.

October 3rd - Applying Makeup for Your Everyday Style
Clary Sage College's Makeup Artistry instructor and students will show you how to apply
and wear everyday makeup. Bring your makeup kit to class and the Clary Sage students and instructors will show each attendee tips on the best way to apply makeup for your shape and coloring. The first 20 Attendees will receive a free gift and samples (or for as long as supplies last).
November 7th - Hair Care and Styling
Clary Sage College's Cosmetology instructor will teach you about hair care and styling,
and how to choose the best style for you. Students and instructors will then
style hair of attendees and show what may work best for them. The first 20
Attendees will receive a free gift and samples (or for as long as supplies
last).
December 5th - Barbering and Facial Hair Care
We will have one of our barber instructors give a presentation on hair styles, how to care for
facial hair, and choosing the best style for the shape of your face. Students and instructors will then sit and talk with attendees individually about what may work best for them. The first 20 Attendees will receive a free gift and samples (or for as long as supplies last).
January 9th - Creating Your Style
Dyana Harrison, our Fashion Design instructor will talk about how to create your personal style, colors to chose and avoid, and how to dress for every occasion. Students and
instructors will then sit and talk with attendees individually about what may work best for them. The first 20 attendees will receive a free gift and samples (or for as long as supplies last).
January 23rd - Fashion Swap
Closet getting full, or style getting stale? Bring your lightly used clothes, purses, accessories,
shoes and more to the Equality Center and trade them with other attendees to
build a whole new style! Clary Sage Instructors and students will be on hand to
help you make choices so will you look your best.
February 6th - Tips to Design Your Own Space
Our Interior Design instructor will give a presentation on how to make your space fit with your
style. She will talk about what elements, color, and accents to incorporate in
order to create a feminine, masculine and/or gender-neutral space. A nice space
is a happy space.

Alphabet Soup: OUT of the Can

Leadership Lock-In 2019 will bring together LGBTQ+ youth in middle school and high school from across the state to socialize, develop leadership skills, and to have a great time! Throughout the lock-In, youth will have the unique opportunity to build partnerships, learn new skills, and develop leadership skills to impact their community.
Who Should Attend?
Youth: Youth in grades 6 through 12 who identify as LGBTQ+ who also have an interest in connecting with, and impacting their community.
What Will We Do?
Youth will participate in interactive workshops focusing on leadership development, community impact, and self-expression. There will be informative and motivating keynote speakers, lots of fun activities, entertainment, and a silent disco!
Some activities will be held at alternate locations such as Youth Services of Tulsa. Staff and volunteers will be responsible for transporting youth to alternate sites.

AIDS Quilt Narratives Wanted
The Dennis R. Neill Equality Center and Jeremy Stevens, program director of the Orbit Initiative for the Tulsa PAC, are asking anyone who knew and/or loved someone who died of AIDS to record their narratives for archival and future use. This project is for anyone affected by the AIDS crisis whose stories are connected to Tulsa. All of these stories deserve to be told.

Social Experiences Survey (GHSE)
Do you identify as transgender or any gender that is different from the sex you were assigned at birth? If so, we encourage you to participate in The Gender Diversity Health and Social Experiences Survey! This research will help support our understanding of the social,
