Hello Families!



Fall is almost here! We have lots of fun and exciting programming coming up for your whole family! We hope you can come and join us.



The Center for Families offers programming for Cambridge families and their children ages birth to 8 years old. We offer parent/child activities, playgroups, parenting workshops, infant support, family fun events, programs just for dads, and more!

Free Preschool for All Cambridge 4-Year-Olds!

Do you have a child who will turn 4 years old by August 31, 2025? Your child can access free school-day, school-year preschool for the 2025-2026 school year through the Cambridge Preschool Program (CPP)!


Apply to CPP October 1 - 31, 2024 on CPP's website.


Highlights of CPP:

  • Families can choose from many Cambridge preschool programs, including Cambridge Public Schools, City of Cambridge Department of Human Service Programs (DHSP), and select community-based preschools.
  • Families will apply to preschool programs through a single online application (in-person help will also be available).
  • Full-day and year-round preschool programs are available (may be additional cost for families).
  • All programs have high-quality, state-approved curriculum.


A child is eligible to apply if they live in Cambridge and are:

  • 4 years old by August 31, 2024 for 4-year-old programs; or
  • 3 years old by August 31, 2024 for 3-year-old programs.

Please note: there will be limited seats for 3-year-olds and there may be additional eligibility requirements.


CPP is offered through the Cambridge Office of Early Childhood, a joint office of the City of Cambridge and Cambridge Public Schools.

Infant Programming

For Cambridge Parents and Caregivers with Babies from Birth - 15 months

Infant Support Group/Baby Time Playgroups


Join other Cambridge parents for a fun and interactive time with your baby! This program is for babies birth to 15 months and their parents/caregivers.


We are offering two baby times in two locations:


  • Mondays in North Cambridge: 9/16, 9/23, 9/30, 10/7, 10/21, 10/28, 11/4, 11/18, 12/2, 12/9 (no groups 10/14, 11/11, and 11/25) from 12:15pm to 1:30pm, at The Center for Families (Peabody School, 70 Rindge Ave., rear door #10). Outside location: Bergin Park, Haskell St.


  • Tuesdays in East Cambridge: 9/17, 9/24, 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22, 10/29, 11/12, 11/19, 12/3, 12/12 (no groups on 11/5 and 11/26) from 12:15pm to 1:30pm, at Frisoli Youth Center (61 Willow St). Outside location: Donnelly Field, behind Frisoli Youth Center.


When the weather is nice, groups may be held outside.

Nurturing Touch/Baby Massage Series


Massaging your baby helps develop strong relationships between you and your child, helps your baby relax, decreases gas and constipation, increases body awareness and maturation, and regulates sleep.


Facilitated by Christine Doucet. Christine is a Certified Infant Massage/Nurturing Touch Trainer from WINC without Borders. She practiced as a nurse-midwife for over 10 years in France, her native country.

Meet other families with young children, learn new activities to support your child’s development, and have fun! Playgroups are for Cambridge families with children 15 months to 4 years old.

Join us in the park to meet other families, learn songs and activities to support your child's development, and have fun! This is an outdoor group so please come ready for messy activities! For Cambridge families with children 15 months-4 years old.

Open Gym Playgroup!


Wednesdays at the Gately Youth Center starting 9/18.


Come play with the Center for Families during Open Gym! Your child can run and jump, play games, and have fun! This is a good time to meet other parents while playing with your child. For Cambridge families with children 15 months - 4 years old.

Messy Marvels Playgroup!


Saturdays at Newtowne Court Playground starting 9/21.


Join us outside on Saturday mornings to play on the playground, blow bubbles, and use our senses by getting messy! Playgroup is designed for children ages 15 months-4 years old and their families.


No registration required. Just come play!

Pajama Story Time!


CFF and the Cambridge Public Library invite Cambridge children from birth through age 8, and their grownups, to join us in person for songs, stories, and rhymes to wind down the day. No registration needed.


Where: O'Neill Library (70 Rindge Ave.)

When: Tuesdays, 9/24, 10/29, 11/12, 12/17

Time: 6:45 - 7:30 p.m.

Parenting Workshops and Support

Special Education Navigation Series


Lauren is a passionate advocate for families of children with special needs. She worked for many years in early intervention, which led her to pursue a law degree related to Special Education advocacy. In her time working with families of children with special needs, she saw the need for even more support. Lauren now shares her knowledge with families professionally to help them advocate confidently for their children.


Join us for this 2-part workshop Tuesdays 10/22 and 10/29 from 6-8 PM at the City-Wide Senior Center (806 Massachusetts Ave.).


Limited childcare available and a light dinner served.

Moms' Groups!


Join The Center for Families and other moms as we talk about parenting and our experiences while doing a craft together! Light breakfast and activity kits are provided.

Limited childcare is available upon request.

Early Literacy Series Dads and moms make a difference!


Join other Cambridge parents to get easy and fun ideas for talking, reading, and playing during your daily activities. The Early Literacy Series includes 6 different dates. Light dinner & childcare is provided for in-person events.

Cambridge Dads is a partnership between the Center for Families and the Agenda for Children Literacy Initiative. Cambridge Dads connects with fathers and father figures and provides information on how a dad can get involved with Cambridge Dads.

The ASQ online tool helps you to better understand all your child's different stages of development from one month up to 5 years old with activities you can do at home. It only takes about 10 - 15 minutes to complete the questionnaire!
