Our parish family begins

Dear friends,

Monday, July 1 marks an important milestone in the life of our parish as well as of the Archdiocese of Seattle. Please take a few moments to read Archbishop Etienne's letter below. All I would add is that as we join together with Immaculate Conception and Christ Our Hope as one parish family, my prayer is that we will do so with love, openness, and mutual respect. We have much to share with each other, and much to learn from each other.

May St. James, patron of pilgrims, be our companion each step of the way.

Father Michael G. Ryan

Pastor

Annual Catholic Appeal Update!

As the Annual Catholic Appeal draws to a close, we are still $50,984 short of our rebate goal! This year, the rebate is especially important, because it’s going to support our ministries for children and young people, including Children’s Faith Formation, Youth Music, Faith Friends, and more.

Please consider making a gift if you haven’t yet. Your gift (no matter what the size) will make a real difference. Thank you for your generosity!

ST VINCENT DE PAUL THANKS YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT A mature woman continues to work to support herself. Her job is outside of the city and she owns and maintains a car primarily to get to her work place. When her car was impounded, she paid a hefty fee to get it back. This resulted in the woman being short of funds to pay her rent. This neighbor called the St. Vincent de Paul Helpline (206-767-6449 or online .https://svdpseattle.org/get-help/online-help-request-form/). With your help, assistance was given and the woman was able to catch up with her rent obligation. Information, Jo Ann Wiesner, 206-291-4012 or wiesnerjo@gmail.com.

A 30-YEAR-LONG FRIENDSHIP Frank was matched with his student, Jack (not his real name), through St. James in the 90s. Over the course of the last 30 years, Frank and Jack met weekly, discussing a wide range of topics including family, healthcare, computers, dealing with scams, and politics. They have shared life as friends, and now they are in their 80s. Frank and Jack have by far the longest tutoring relationship in the history of our tutoring program, embodying Immigrant Assistance’s vision and values beautifully: a community where refugees and immigrants are valued and welcomed. Relationships and community are at the core of what we do and why we do it. We are so grateful for Jack and Frank, and their example of friendship! Would you like to join our wonderful ESL and Citizenship tutor team? (We ask for a minimum commitment of 9 months – not 30 years!) Information, Sayuko Setvik, ssetvik@stjames-cathedral.org or 206-382-4511.

SENIOR ICE CREAM SOCIAL Seniors of the parish, come join us for an ice cream social to celebrate summer! Wednesday, August 21, 1:00-3:00pm, Pastoral Outreach Center Courtyard. RSVP requested. Information, Anisa Ralls, 206-382-4269 or aralls@stjames-cathedral.org.
