Every year, Church Street organizes the Missions Day of Service and this year, we've partnered with other Knoxville churches to pull off a GREAT Day of Service!


This collective effort will be kick-off at Church Street in Downtown Knoxville and projects vary based on your interest, availability, age, and location. There's plenty room and opportunities for you to join this ecumenical effort!

Bridge Refugee Services (CSUMC 900 Henley Street & BRS - 4420 Whittle Springs Road/ Lead is Michael Major) Choose an item to purchase for welcome packages for immigrants, bring items to Church Street United Methodist for transport to Bridge Refugee Service.


Dogwood Elementary (DES 705 Tipton Ave/ Lead is Mary Torres) Help Spruce up the exterior area around the main entrance and donate individually wrapped snacks needed to give to the children during the school days.

Every Bed, Every Day (First Baptist Church Trentham Hall - 1050 Locust Street Parking/ Lead is Susan Browder) We want every person who spends the night at KARM to be prayed for—every bed, every day. You will make & design some of the 300 E-BED cards and place one on each pillow as you pray over the beds in our overnight dorms.

  • 9 AM - 12 NOON

Feeding the Homeless (Broadway under the bridge near Cooper Street/Fifth Ave./Leads are Leanna Groves & Crystal O’Neal) Make and bring carryout meals, water, Christian reading materials and have prayers with our homeless neighbors. 

  • 2 - 3 PM

Fire Station Visits (Various Fire Departments/ Lead is Victoria McNeal) Make and bring cakes, cupcakes, cookies, snacks to give to our firefighters to show them gratitude for their service.

Food Buckets, Cleaning and Hygiene Kits (CSUMC Gym - 913 Henley Street/ Lead is Amanda Ford) Assembly of Food Buckets for Zimbabwe with nonperishable food, filling buckets with cleaning supplies for Disaster Relief throughout the US and assembling small personal Hygiene Kits to be distributed in US Disaster Areas.

Help Garden at BattleField Farm (3624 Boyds Bridge Pike in East Knoxville/ Lead is Meredith Loftis) Help garden, weed, water, and provide general help with the Farm.

Nursing Home Sing-alongs (Various Nursing Homes in Knoxville/ Lead is Steve Foster) Sing familiar hymns along with the residents.

  • 9 AM & 11 AM, and possibly 2 PM
  • All ages 


Pack Care Packages for Downtown Workers (First Presbyterian Church - 620 State Street/ Lead is Sarah Dugger) Pack care packages for downtown frontline and support workers such as hotel staff, fire fighters, KUB workers, and others.

  • 9 AM - 12 NOON
  • All ages 


Paint at Family Promise Day Center (Family Promise - 3545 Middlebrook Pike/ Lead is Meredith Loftis) Help provide a fresh coat of paint to the Family Center Day Center basement and other maintenance projects.

  • 9 AM - 12 NOON
  • Ages 10-Adults 


Prayer Walking/Driving (Begin at Front Steps of First Baptist Church - 510 West Main Street/ Leads are Ed Dexter & Emagene Reagan) Follow a prayer guide as you walk or drive in the downtown area.

  • 9 AM - 12 NOON (walking), anytime if driving
  • All ages 


Operation Backyard (assigned by Operation Backyard/ Lead is Tammy Strader) Improve accessibility via handicap ramp or porch reconstruct. 16 yr. old – Adults 9:00 to 12:00+

  • Age 16 - Adults


Seven Islands State Birding Park Clean-Up (2809 Kelly Lane, Kodak, TN/ Lead is Barbara Eubank) volunteers are needed to help with miscellaneous projects, liter pick up, invasive species removal, garden maintenance/weeding, & trail maintenance.

  • 10 AM – 1 PM
  • All ages 


Snack Bags & Laundry Detergent (CSUMC Gym 900 Henley Street/ Lead is Amanda Ford) For Elementary-aged children to assemble small snack bags for the Church Street Soup Kitchen and small containers of Laundry Detergent.

  • 9 AM - 12 NOON
  • Ages 6-10 


South Knoxville Elementary School (SKES - 801 Sevier Ave/ Lead is Dianne Forry) We will be doing weeding, scrubbing furniture, cleaning up some other areas.

  • 9 AM - 12 NOON
  • All Ages 


Susannah’s House Clean-up (923 Dameron Avenue/ Lead is Jeff Goff) This new home for Mothers in Recovery has just been completed and will need several small projects to make ready for move in. Projects may include some cleaning, painting, picking up around the exterior and other last-minute chores.

  • 9 AM - 12 NOON
  • High Schoolers - Adults


Singles On Service: Spruce Up Vestal Community (South Knoxville Community Center Park, 522 Maryville Pike/ Lead is Dianna Mercier) Your team of single adults will remove trash and debris from Mary Vestal Park, Mary Vestal Greenway, Goose Creek and other public areas of Vestal community.

  • 9 AM - 1 PM
  • Single Adults 18 +
