The most meaningful experiences of my life stem from "on island" face to face networking with Pacific Professionals over the years. As a CPA, I find that networking with the incredible accounting talent throughout the Pacific is a meaningful professional networking experience. Whatever your talent, I invite you to join us in our 5M (Marshalls - Manila) island hopping Vol professional networking tour in 2019!

In this newsletter, see our latest pilots in the US Mainland regarding delivering Entrepreneurship to under served rural communities and related Agriculture initiatives. We are also offering consulting services based on the success of our business model.  But first, we welcome volunteer Dace Campbell and his family to Kosrae Micronesia (FSM) ! Instead of a Disney or other typical family vacations, Dace and family chose a unique and meaningful experience in the Pacific!  You, your family and friends can have this experience too! be sure to read more about our 2019 "5M" experience and follow this link for ongoing information.  Read more about the Campbell's experience below!

Thanks to your donated time and financial gifts, KnowledgeWell is able to deliver value to underserved communities and individuals in the most remote locations on earth.

Opting for a more meaningful family experience, and a significantly differentiated learning experience for the children, the Campbell's arrived in the FSM on January 20th. Last Summer Volunteer Dace Campbell reached out to KnowledgeWell seeking to share his expertise. Campbell is sharing his expertise by utilizing UAS/UAV (drone) Photogrammetry to VR & AR solutions to continue KnowledgeWell's work in delivering technology solutions to assist the Historic Preservation Office- HPO (KIRMA & Survey & Mapping). KnowledgeWell has delivered technologies and experts under the guidance of the HPO since 2006! (see Flashback PS section below)

5 year old Declan says his favorite part of Kosrae is "crossing all the rivers on a hike".
:-)

Want a real world Pacific Islands learning experience for your family too? Join the 5M expedition in 2019. See 5M article below! and Sign up here for more information.

While in the FSM, Dace is executing projects and creating learning experiences around:
  • flying a drone to take aerial photographs
  • performing photogrammetry from the pictures to create a digital model
  • using virtual reality and augmented reality to experience that model immersively and interactively.
While using these tools in support of mitigating climate change through historic preservation, the technology is applicable to all manner of fields of work and study, including:
  • architecture/engineering
  • infrastructure (transportation, communication, etc.)
  • carpentry/construction
  • agriculture/land management
  • manufacturing
  • scientific visualization
  • natural resources
  • computer science
  • education
  • media/entertainment
Learn more about these solutions for your community. Join us for our next US event in Orlando Florida!

2018 KOSRAE: WWII Japanese Radio Tower with Campbell Family on the Beach. Photo by Dace Campbell. All Historic Sites have tremendous value. This Site makes the KnowledgeWell Top 5 Favorites List Globally and is a "bucket list" must see. The Hollywood Movie "Up Periscope" with James Garner is based on actual events from this site. Thanks to the vision and wisdom of the ancestors of the family that owns it, trees and vegetation were planted in the 1940s which have preserved the structure from rising sea levels.

Join us in ORLANDO!  May 30-31 KnowledgeWell "Beginning of BIM" Series
Lunch at DEC08 NCSU Event

KnowledgeWell continues to respond to expertise requests for volunteers.  BIM (CAD, GIS, AEC, ENI, LEED) and other Technology Solutions comprise over 80% of the requests. BIM Building (as in constructing) Information Modeling creates value for the local governments, nonprofits and the private sector. In this data lifecycle, one can focus on strategies throughout. For example, the end of life or reuse of a bridge or highway. Our series touches on all aspects of the life cycle, strategies for community leaders with a special emphasis on the "Beginning of BIM"- the actual collection of the data. Volunteer Dace Campbell is in Kosrae collecting data and creating models for the people of Kosrae and the Historic Preservation Office.

These BIM and other technology solutions are highlighted in these US events for over a decade- from DC to Guam- through KnowledgeWell's BIM event series. These solutions help leaders of any community with a number of challenges- from infrastructure to historic preservation to threats such as rising sea levels. BIM and related technologies enable KnowledgeWell volunteers to empower local leaders to make wise choices to meet a range of challenges- from Climate Change to our UNESCO World Heritage Site work.

Our next BIM/Technology event is planned for Orlando, Florida May 30-31. At this event you will experience real world technologies and strategies, and you will learn about how you can become involved with KnowledgeWell by sharing your expertise - all professions are welcome! If you are interested in sponsoring this event, email BIM@knowledgewell.org. Click on the link below for more information on attending the event.

Rising Sea Levels Threaten WWII Historic Site. New Technologies Photogrammetry/LiDAR (previously too expensive) allow coastal communities anywhere to benchmark and control data regarding climate change threats. Learn more at our upcoming event!

Business Offering to New Ventures and SMEs- Launch, Grow with "no money"
concept_global.jpg
KnowledgeWell Shares its Business Model

In 2005, KnowledgeWell launched internationally. It was founded as a unique business model proof of concept from a UNC Business School EMBA team. Launched internationally with "no money" or to be more accurate "extremely limited resources," it fulfilled its mission by delivering expertise, in person, to professionals from 16  island states in its first year.  All with:
-no traditional marketing resources (including no web site for three years)
-no fundraisers
-no donations accepted from Board members, executive team, etc. for first 5 years

In addition to delivering expertise and changing lives (see past article on unemployed college grads from Palau for example), KnowledgeWell has delivered over $10M to underserved communities in its first decade.

Your private or nonprofit organization can benefit from this model today. If launching a new venture or growing a venture with limited resources is of value to you, contact us.

5M Expedition- Join us! Marshall's-Manila Vols' Island Hopping Networking Tour
tumonbayfromHilton
Marshalls to Micronesia to Marianas to Melekeok  to Manila

For over a decade, KnowledgeWell has hosted the Pacific Leadership Forum where leaders from the region deliver requests for expertise. KnowledgeWell volunteers would then seek out experts to meet the need. The new KnowledgeWell 5M experience speeds the "matching" process as it allows professionals, experts and students to discover opportunities to serve- face to face with Pacific Professionals!

This volunteer experience is designed to quickly network in each community visited and choose a longer, more focused experience for the following year. The expedition will be divided into two segments lasting 7-10 days each.

Sign up for information on the 5Ms Tour!

Where?

First Segment- Republic of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia (Kosrae, Pohnpei, Chuuk), concluding in the Marianas- Guam/Siapan

Second Segment- Marianas (Guam, Saipan), Micronesia (FSM-Yap), Melekeok (Palau), concluding in Manila.

Both segments are scheduled for late February/March and are repeated in November.

Who?

Any and all experts, students, family and friends. Whatever your current or former job, current or former degree, your experience and expertise can create value as you meet and learn from Pacific Professionals.

What?

What will we do? The experience is designed as a "concierge" expedition, where everything is planned out for you, and all you have to do is show up at the airport ready to go.

Due to the fast pace of numerous community visits, the goal is to create a learning and awareness experience for you. While all stops have islands and the ocean, the cultures are fascinating and unique. The goal is to deliver a learning experience with each of these incredible cultures! In addition to the networking experiences created for you, it is your choice as to where to dive in (literally and figuratively) at each stop.

Travel arrangements and logistics will be handled by KnowledgeWell sponsors.

Thank you for your support which makes these opportunities possible.

Sincerely,

Lisa McFarland, CPA MBA
