Dear Rule of Law Community:

USAID is very pleased to invite you to the launch event for our new Rule of Law PolicyThis will be an in-person event (with live-streaming also available) on May 31, 2023 at 10:00 AM ET at the City Club of Washington (555 13th St NW, Washington, DC).

This is the Agency's first-ever policy dedicated to the rule of law, and positions USAID to meet the growing threats to the rule of law with bold new approaches and innovative tools. At this pivotal moment for renewed democracy and rule of law worldwide, the Policy highlights the necessity of rule of law promotion, elevates it within the Agency, and situates it across USAID's development work around the world. Most notably, the Policy articulates a new paradigm for the Agency’s rule of law programming: a “people-centered justice” approach.

The event will be emceed by Ro Tucci, director of USAID's Center for Democracy, Human Rights, and Governance. The agenda will include a conversation by a panel of USAID foreign service nationals on the Policy and its implications for work in their respective countries, and reflections on rule of law in the field by USAID Ukraine/Belarus Mission Director James Hope.

We also encourage you to stay afterward for a reception that will begin at 11:00 a.m., and will feature more in-depth discussion among our speakers and our participants on the road ahead for the Policy in its implementation by the Agency and our implementing partners around the world.
