CARE FOR CREATION NEWS The Catholic Church will be celebrating the 9th anniversary of the publication of Pope Francis’ encyclical on caring for the Earth. Laudato Si’ Week, to take place May 19-26, encourages us to be Seeds of Hope. Let us contemplate and nurture seeds of hope for our “suffering planet” (Laudate Deum 2). Laudate Deum is a reminder about the urgency of the Laudato Si’ message and the need for both personal and cultural transformation amidst our ecological and climate crises. Let us be seeds of hope in our lives and our world, rooted in faith and love. Information, https://laudatosiweek.org/.

EMERALD ENSEMBLE CONCERT – BYRD & HOWELLS Tuesday, May 14 at 7:30pm, the Emerald Ensemble presents two great works by masters of English choral music. From the Renaissance comes William Byrd's Mass for five voices, a rarely performed gem. Herbert Howells's unaccompanied Requiem, written after the death of the composer's son, is a soothing staple of twentieth-century choral repertoire. The concert is rounded out by two works by local composers, Karen P. Thomas and the Emerald Ensemble's own Artistic Director, Gary D. Cannon. Tickets and more info at www.emeraldensemble.org, where free St. James parishioner passes are available.
