Updates From Us

One team. One community.

A whole lot of support.

I would like to thank everyone who attended our 8th Annual Steak Fry this past Thursday. This year was our biggest year yet with 250 attendees and a huge basket raffle. We are already looking forward to next year’s event!

Sunday, September 7th marked the opening of Direct Support Professional Recognition Week. Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) are the backbone of the disability community and without their dedication provider agencies would not be able to provide the support we do. The role of the DSP is critical in the success of the individual and due to that we have implemented the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP) E-Badge Academy. The E-Badge Academy is a training platform that helps to equip the DSP with person-centered planning, communication strategies, and engages them to provide personalized care. Through the platform they earn digital badges with the mastery of core competencies in the caregiving field. MCAR has offered this training opportunity to all DSPs in the Residential Department with the overall goal of having 6.5% of our DSP workforce credentialed by the end of the year.  E-Badge also offers Front-Line Supervisor training; we will have 100% of our Residential Managers certified by the end of the year. The adoption of NADSP E-Badge Academy enhances service delivery by increasing knowledge, skills, and values. The increased and improved training of our staff will strengthen our delivery of services. If you would like more information about NADSP E-Badge Academy, please feel free to reach out to the HR Department.

Our Annual Christmas Luncheon is December 1st, 2025, at the Avalon, at 12:00pm. We look forward to enjoying the holiday festivities together. If you would like to attend, please reach out to Ashley Reimold to secure your reservation.

Thank you for this opportunity to serve you,

Lyndsey Vogan, CEO

Quality Management at MCAR

MCAR’s Quality Management Plan is a strategic framework developed every three years to advance the Office of Developmental Programs' (ODP) mission of continuous quality improvement. The plan is designed to ensure our programs fulfill the agency’s mission, prioritize the health and safety of all participants, and promote an individual's ability to live an Everyday Life. For the current cycle, our objectives include a progressive reduction in medication errors as well as focusing on increasing the number of individuals who obtain and retain competitive integrated employment and expanding community engagement for participants in the Community Participation Support (CPS) program, with a goal for individuals to spend at least 25% of their time in community settings.

Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

At MCAR Inc., we are dedicated to building a work environment that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. We believe that embracing our differences is a fundamental strength. Our goal is to create a culture where every employee is treated with fairness and respect and has an equal opportunity to contribute, grow, and succeed. We are convinced that fostering an inclusive environment not only boosts employee engagement but also allows us to attract and retain a wider range of skilled and talented people. This commitment extends to everyone we interact with, including the individuals we serve, our vendors, and job applicants, ensuring that dignity and respect are the cornerstones of our organization.

To put these values into action, MCAR has established clear procedures to guide our efforts. Additionally, we provide annual DEI training for staff to raise awareness and promote understanding. Furthermore, our Cultural Diversity Committee will meet regularly to review our progress, discuss new training ideas, and ensure we represent the communities we serve. These steps reinforce our core promise: to maintain a workplace free from discrimination, harassment, and bullying, where every individual is valued.

John Blazer, Compliance Specialist

I grew up in the Hermitage area. Helping others has always been my passion; whether it’s on land or in the water. I have 30 plus years of experience in healthcare with individuals with I/DD in their home, school, and out in the community. My background is Physical Therapy Assistant, swimming pool manager, and personal care assistant.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with amazing people and supportive staff. My favorite part of the job is that no day is ever the same. Tasks are always different which makes every day interesting. It’s incredible to see individuals grow with their independence.

Outside of work, I enjoy the beach and spending quality time with friends and family as well as being a mom to my son and 2 fur babies.

Welcome Darlene Butler, HAB Aid Specialist!

Supported Employment:

Jessica Ebbert

MCAR would like to congratulate Jessica Ebbert on her new job opportunity with Alpha Security LLC as a Sharon School Crossing Guard. Jessica is being supported by her job coach. Jessica’s new position is very important to the community. Jessica stated she enjoys making sure students are remaining safe while entering and leaving school. Keep up the great work Jessica!

Small Group Employment

MCAR began working on a new Small Group Employment opportunity with George Howe candies. Individuals now have an opportunity to box and seal the candy that is going to be sent out to businesses. We have been able to have 1 on 1 and group work. We hope this turns into more work in the future!

Individuals and their job coaches working on a new contract that we took in for The George Howe Company packaging candy. We were approached by the Howe company out of Grove city asking if we would be interested in the work. And we are excited to say that we have no less than four individuals working on this contract.

CPS Day Program

A Day at the Ballpark

The wait was finally over! CPS Day Program recently attended the Mahoning Valley Scrappers Baseball game, and we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day. The sun was shining, the stands were full of energy, and our group had an incredible turnout of nearly 150 individuals and staff.

This outing was extra special because it gave us the chance to honor and show our love for our beloved Carolyn McClure. Many of us said it felt as though she was right there in the stands cheering alongside us.

Everyone was thrilled to receive all-you-can-eat wristbands that gave access to unlimited hot dogs, cheeseburgers, grilled chicken sandwiches, nachos, and much more. For many of our individuals, this was their very first live baseball experience. The joy of singing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame,” cheering loudly for the Scrappers, and simply spending the day surrounded by friends outside of the typical routine made this event truly unforgettable.

Opportunities like this are more than just fun outings—they are life-enriching experiences. They allow our individuals to be part of the community, explore new places, and create lasting memories with peers and staff.

Virtual Reality Comes to CPS!

We are excited to share that CPS Day Program has added 30 Virtual Reality headsets to our program! This innovative technology is a safe and engaging way for individuals to explore the world and build new skills—all while remaining comfortably seated.

With VR, our individuals can:

• Learn important life skills such as money management, healthy eating, and daily living activities.

• Go on virtual adventures like walking along the Great Wall of China, exploring the Egyptian Pyramids, or scuba diving through colorful coral reefs.

Over the past month, our supervisors and staff have received training on how to lead classes using this exciting technology. We are eager to begin rolling out lessons and activities, knowing that the possibilities for fun and learning are endless.

Our OADC program had the opportunity to test out the headsets, and the reactions were priceless. Many individuals were in absolute awe, sharing that it was something they never thought they would get to experience. Seeing their smiles, excitement, and sense of wonder reminded us why it is so important to continue finding new ways to make learning engaging and fun.

Giving Back to the Community

Service and giving back are important values at CPS, and this past month our individuals had the opportunity to make a big impact. We were invited to participate in a Back-to-School Bash, where our group helped provide school supplies for local children.

The project included assembling 800 water bottles stuffed with school items—and our individuals jumped right in with enthusiasm! The speed and teamwork they showed was inspiring. Many expressed how proud they felt knowing that their work would help other children start the school year prepared and supported.

Experiences like this show that our individuals are not only part of the community but also contributors to it. Their dedication and willingness to help others speaks volumes about their abilities, their compassion, and the value of inclusion.

Labor Day Celebration

We ended the summer with our annual Labor Day Party, which also doubled as a celebration for all of our summer birthdays. This year, we decided to try something new at the request of our individuals—and it was a hit!

Instead of the traditional picnic-style menu, we enjoyed a Walking Taco Bar. Everyone had the independence to build their own taco, adding whichever toppings they wanted. The excitement of customizing their meal brought lots of smiles and laughter. It was truly something to taco ‘bout!

A Sweet Summer Surprise

MCAR also surprised the entire agency with a Rita Day—and it was the perfect way to cool down on a hot summer afternoon. The sound of cheers filled the air as the Rita’s Italian Ice truck pulled up the MCAR drive. Individuals and staff practically ran out the doors, eager to line up for their favorite ice-cold treat.

We all gathered under the pavilion, enjoying Italian Ice while socializing with friends and staff. The simple joy of sharing a cool snack together brought so much happiness to the day. It was another reminder that sometimes the little moments—like sharing a sweet treat—create the biggest memories.

Looking Ahead

As we turn the page to fall, we are excited for all the opportunities the new season brings. The cooler temperatures, changing leaves, and festive activities of pumpkin season are already calling our names. We look forward to continuing to provide experiences that bring joy, growth, and connection for all of our individuals.

Together, let’s make this fall one filled with learning, laughter, and community.

Residential

Catherine Leasure enjoyed a meaningful visit to the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh. The experience provided her opportunities to explore interactive exhibits, learn through hands-on activities, and engage with the community in a supportive and enriching environment. We also had several individuals that reside at our Trees, Coolspring, and 13th Street locations, recently attend local fairs, enjoying the opportunity to explore exhibits, connect with community members, and of course enjoy the wonderful fair food.  Outings such as these foster personal growth, independence, and inclusion while highlighting the importance of providing access to educational and cultural resources.

8th Annual Steak Fry

Our 8th Annual Steak fry was held Thursday September 18th at the Shriner's Club in Hermitage. It was a great turnout with 250 in attendance. The weather was perfect, and everyone enjoyed grilling their own steaks. We had over 50 items in our basket raffle and grand prizes of Cleveland Brown tickets, a 50" tv, pizza oven and grill. Thank you to our managers for putting on a great event! We are already looking forward to next year!
