Announcing card campaign for Sonoma County firefighters
Sonoma County Tourism (SCT) is pleased to partner with the Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership (CVNL) on a Sonoma County Tourism Cares volunteer opportunity writing thank you cards to local* firefighters.

The bravery, sacrifice, and dedication of our firefighters spared Sonoma County from what could have been unimaginable destruction this wildfire season. It’s difficult to imagine how our local tourism and hospitality industries, already struggling from the impacts of COVID-19, would have coped had the fires not been contained as rapidly as they were.

These courageous men and women saved lives. Saved homes. And yes, saved jobs.

Please join us in taking a few moments to put pen to paper to let these heroes know just how grateful we are to them.
How do I participate?

Register your participation through CVNL’s volunteer portal here.

Where do I get the cards?

You can either supply your own greeting cards or you can arrange to pick cards up from Sonoma County Tourism on Friday November 13 (by appointment only – email [email protected] to schedule a pickup time).

How many cards am I expected to write?

However many you’re comfortable with. Sonoma County has 25 fire departments and 8 volunteer fire departments. Our goal is to provide each department with at least 10 cards – which means we hope to send out collectively around 330 cards or more.

What should the cards say?

We request you use a general “Dear/thank you Sonoma County Firefighters” since we won’t know the exact station the card will go to until we get them all back. If you’re able, we’d love for you to mention that you work in the tourism or hospitality industry. But the primary goal is simply to express our gratitude.

What do I do with the cards I’ve written?

In order to ensure an even distribution of cards to our various fire departments, we request that you drop cards off at the Sonoma County Tourism office at 400 Aviation Blvd., Suite 500, Santa Rosa, CA 95403. We will have a dedicated drop-off box outside of our offices November 13-20.

We will then sort the cards, run them through postage, and mail them.

When is the deadline?

All cards need to be in to Sonoma County Tourism by Friday November 20.

I have more questions.

No problem! You can direct your questions to SCT’s community engagement specialist, Devin McConnell at [email protected], and he will be happy to get back to you.
*We’d be remiss not to mention the thousands of firefighters from around the country and globe that came to Sonoma County’s aid this year. Although our card writing campaign is focused on local fire departments, we are sincerely grateful to every firefighter who fought to protect our destination.
