Advent Sunday This Week! Wreath-Making, Devotionals, and Friars Advent Breakfast

Please join us on the first Sunday of Advent, as we meet in the Parish Hall to make Advent wreaths. We will be selling Advent wreaths’ rings and candles, and if you have a ring you would like to bring and wrap with greenery, please feel free to do so. Greenery will be supplied. See you there! 
Please also stop by to pick up an Advent Calendar (for adults and for families) as well as Advent Candle Lighting Devotionals (also for adults and families). to use when you light your Advent Candles each Sunday during this season. The devotional contains prayers, readings, and hymn selections for each Sunday and was written by Judith Lyons, our seminary intern. Plus! The annual Friars’ Advent Breakfast after both worship services!
Advent Quiet Day - “Into an Advent Peace”
Next Thursday December 6th, 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Sanctuary and Boardroom 
Explore different prayer forms and some of their living history to engage the spirit and quiet of Advent. Moments of peace become special tools for centering during the hectic season before Christmas Day. The day will begin from 9am – 10am with an optional meditation and scripture time in our church chancel area led by our seminarian, Jude. The Quiet Day, led by Paula+ and Rev. Laurel, continues in the boardroom, 10:15am – 12:30pm, followed by optional brown bag lunch. Sponsored by the Episcopal Church Women. All (men and women!) are invited to attend.

Join us to find out more about our one-day, fundraiser for the St. Francis Outreach Scholarship Fund – coming up Fri., March 1, 2019. Help is needed with different areas of the event; small but helpful jobs, e.g. follow-up phone calls, contacting vendors to be a part of our boutique, help arranging our silent auction tables etc.

Suzanne Miller invites you to experience the internationally-acclaimed Episcopal Chorale Society of Los Angeles (a Diocese-wide music resource of which she is a member). The ECS together with the Laguna Beach Chorale, will be presenting a program of Handel's Messiah, Sunday evening, 4 PM, Dec. 2nd, at St. James Episcopal Church, 3200 Via Lido, Newport Beach. A $20 donation on the day would be appreciated.
Immediate Opportunities to Help Harbor Interfaith
On the first Thursday of every month, our Harbor Interfaith Volunteer Team works in the food pantry at Harbor Interfaith from 1:30-3:30pm packing food bags for the working poor and homeless in our community.  Our next volunteer afternoon will be Next Thursday, December 6th , followed by January 3rd and February 6th. If interested in helping out, please contact Hank.
Last but not least, Harbor Interfaith is in urgent need of toiletries to hand out to their clients. They are especially in need of toothpaste/brushes, shampoo, conditioner, bath soap or gel, deodorant, and razors & shaving cream. Thank you in advance for your generosity. All items should be placed in the Harbor Interfaith baskets, located in the narthex and the church office. Together we truly can make a difference in the lives of others! Godspeed!

Help for Mama Hill’s Help
If you would like to donate a gift card or check made out to Mama Hill’s Help this year, you may place the gift card or check in an envelope marked Mama Hill’s and send it or leave it in the office in the Outreach Box (Gayle Taylor). Alternatively, you can place it in an envelope to be picked up during the offering on Sundays. Gift cards and checks will be accepted until December 23. Questions? Email Susan Egan.
Vestry Nomination Time
Please pray about nominating yourself or someone else to be on our Vestry, the governing board of our parish. We share in the mission and leadership of our parish through our variety of gifts. Please talk to one of the Vestry members or Paula+ about this rewarding service. (The Vestry meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month and is a 3 year commitment. Election of 4 new Vestry members will take place at our January Annual Meeting.) Gratefully, Paula+

The Seasons of the Church

What is your favorite season of the church year? Did you know that our "church year" begins with the first Sunday of Advent (and not January 1st)? Paula+, Rev. Laurel, and Peter+ will lead this class on the liturgical calendar and the different seasons of the church year. We will talk about the different days that mark the seasons as well as other practices that help us to get into the spirit of each season.
Sages Save The Date—Christmas Party
Tuesday, December 11, 11:30 am - 1:15pm Parish Hall. 
Lunch will be provided and our festive Christmas entertainment will be provided by the South Bay Strummers Ukulele Band featuring St. Francis parishioner Art Grant. Merry Christmas indeed! Please sign up in the church office. All welcome!
