SPONSOR SOMEONE IN RCIA Would you like to share the meaning of your Catholic faith with someone who is new to the Church? Does the thought of accompanying someone as they seek to become Catholic appeal to you? Could you introduce someone to Christian discipleship as lived at St. James? Perhaps you would make a good RCIA sponsor. Learn more about what’s involved in sponsorship. Information, John Marquez, 206-654-4640 or jmarquez@stjames-cathedral.org.

CARE FOR CREATION NEWS Today, May 26, marks the end of Laudato Si Week. In that encyclical, Pope Francis says, “Love, overflowing with small gestures of mutual care, is also civic and political, and it makes itself felt in every action that seeks to build a better world. Love for society and commitment to the common good are outstanding expressions of a charity which affects not only relationships between individuals but also ‘macro-relationships, social, economic and political ones’” (LS 231). If each person committed to making small lifestyle changes and sustaining them over the long term, we could make a considerable collective impact on environmental preservation and the planet's health for future generations. One thing you can do is to join the St. James Care for Creation team, which will meet this Tuesday night via Zoom. Information, Patrick Barredo, 206-382-4515 or pbarredo@stjames-cathedral.org.

WELCOME BACKPACKS Did you know that know that individuals seeking asylum in the United States must wait 150 days after filing their asylum application before they can request employment authorization (a work permit)? Add in the time it takes to find legal assistance to prepare the asylum application – asylum seekers are often waiting a very long period before they can move forward in establishing themselves in a new community. The St. James Respite Team connects newcomers to legal and other community resources, while offering small forms of direct assistance. A couple recently came to St. James and were assessed for our ESL tutoring program. Their children remain with relatives in Latin America; legal assistance is imperative to their need to financially support now, and eventually reunite with, their children. In addition to sharing legal resources, the Respite Team connected the mother to a free eye clinic for an exam and glasses, and walked them to St. Francis House to select free clothing and household items. The couple was incredibly grateful for the gift cards shared by the Respite Team so that they could purchase groceries and other essential items. Thank you for helping us extend a warm welcome to our new neighbors! As Welcome Backpack supplies are low, please consider purchasing gift cards or items from our Target registry: https://www.target.com/gift-registry/gift/sjia-welcome-backpacks. Information, Erica de Klerk, edeklerk@stjames-cathedral.org or 206-382-4511.

MEDIEVAL WOMEN’S CHOIR CONCERT – VISIONS & MIRACLES, Saturday, June 8 at 8:00pm. Visions and miracles play a fundamental role in the foundational narratives and sacred texts of Christianity. No wonder, then, that medieval Christians experienced the world in the same way: celebrating, inventing, narrating, and preserving a dizzying array of visions and miracles. This is a reflection of their intense spirituality and their casual acceptance of the role of the supernatural in daily life. Accounts of miracles and visions permeated the music of the era, often pushing singers to create their most expressive works. Join the Medieval Women’s Choir as they explore the musical mysticism of the Middle Ages. Information, https://medievalwomenschoir.org/events/.

SANDWICH MAKING MINISTRY Healthy sandwiches can be made at home and then brought to the Cathedral to share with men staying at the St. Martin de Porres Shelter. This is a great activity for families with young children, people with busy lives, and anyone who is not able to go out and serve. Information, Patrick Barredo, 206-382-4515 or pbarredo@stjames-cathedral.org.

TOILETRY DONATIONS If you are traveling and staying at a hotel, consider bringing the small toiletries back to St. James so they can be distributed to those in need. Donations can be dropped off at the Cathedral Bookstore. Especially needed at the moment is suntan lotion. Thank you!

VISIT THE CATHEDRAL BOOKSTORE Located in Archbishop Murphy Courtyard on the south side of the Cathedral, the Cathedral Bookstore is open weekdays 11-3 and after each weekend Mass. Information, Caroline Okello, 206-654-4650 or cokello@stjames-cathedral.org.
