Q: TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!
N: My family and I originated from Bosnia. My dad went to fight in the war while my mom took care of 5 girls on her own. We lived in different refugee camps - an abandoned school and underground shelters for the next 3 years, surviving off whatever we could find in the rubble. We immigrated to the US as refugees from the Bosnian War in 1998. My uncle came first and settled in the Tri-Cities and helped us get here. We have been in the Tri-Cities for 23 years. I now have a family of my own. I have been a single mom raising a feisty, smart, kind little girl on my own for the last 6+ years. It has been challenging at times, but it's been so worth it!!
Q: WHAT DO YOU DO FOR WORK?
N: I currently work as an Administrative Assistant for Epic Lawn Care & Pest Control.
Q: WHAT MADE YOU APPLY FOR HABITAT'S HOMEOWNERSHIP PROGRAM?
N: For the last few years I have dreamed about getting a house for me and my daughter, but financially it was not possible. I wanted my daughter to have a backyard with a trampoline and have a spigot to blow up water balloons during the summer. Being a single mom and sole provider, we lived paycheck to paycheck for many years. I came to the realization that the only way for me to be a homeowner would be to get help through some sort of program, & Habitat came to mind!
Q: WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR HOBBIES?
N: My daughter and I enjoy gardening. We have had beds in our community garden for the last few years. We also love playing board games, riding our bikes together, hiking, and spending time with family.
Q: WHAT DOES HOME MEAN TO YOU?
N: Home to me means security. Home means having something that I can invest and take pride in looking after. Home is a place where me and my daughter can make lasting memories and a place that we can make our own permanently.
